I had a dilemma for a while, because this guy gave me a HUGE deal on this pictured 07 RWB 800. 2018 miles. Pristine shape, garage kept. I'd get murdered if I told everyone the price. Let's say, under $5500 :)
The story now begins... I am a car guy, and my trans am is modded to the teeth. I am shopping right now for the VFR800 (it is QUIET compared to my hindle stealth full exhaust 750)
Personally, besides the increase in intake noise, the desnorkel and flapper mods really didn't change much for me, I ended up restoring the air box to stock condition. As far as VTEC, the PC quells the abruptness but when it kicks in you can feel the boost in power but I wouldn't call it noisy. The pipes/cans and PC, with the PAIR removed/disabled, is probably your best bet for performance increase, that and a suspension upgrade. At least this has been my experience.
Agreed on the airbox mods - I don't ever recall a post with documentation (dyno runs) showing that they do anything. There's probably more bang for the buck by shedding some weight (the exhaust will be a good start) rather than looking for hp.
On the cans, if you plan to fit the factory luggage, be sure that your cans will clear them - mine are an extremely tight fit (Remus).
One of the best mods for peace of mind IMHO is the VFRness and some Oxgard to be sure the electrical system stays in good shape. Check the electrical forums for numerous posts on that.
I thought the older 6th gens had that issue, not the 07? Or was that only for the honda recall.
I do NOT plan on the factory luggage... the guy had them for this bike but sold them for $1200, which I don't blame him. I might get some aftermarket bags if I start needing them. I am usually ok with a backpack.
The 2006-2010 VFR800s were supposed to have the eletrical gremlins sorted out... but some stators, R/Rs and fuse holders have still been know to blow... much less, but we are unsure as to whether that is because they haven't had time/km enough to start blowing in numbers yet...
Some foolproofing is never a bad idea and much cheaper tan the required repairs.
You can always gut the stock exhaust for more noise. There's a thread or two on how to do it.
You really did get a steal on that VFR. One of the dealers still has a RWB ABS on the floor. Think they want somewhere in the $6k region for it, maybe $7k.
Friends dealer had a black 2007 they wanted like 7k for it also. That is why I had to get this thing before he was going to put it on the market.

Is there a write up for the PAIR removal/disable? I did a search and just see people saying they did it :( no instructions!

Guess that is it. so weight reduction (lol) and a better running bike? sounds too good to be true
Lol, yeah too good to be true...maybe. The removal is actually meant to prevent the PAIR from affecting the Dynometer readings when getting it Dyno tuned. If you just plan on throwing in a downloaded map and have no desired to have it custom tuned, then it's probably not a big deal to leave it intact. I would have swore that there was a write up about how to do it on the forum, but maybe it was on VFRW. I'll see if I can locate a how-to.
Typically you take it to a tuning center and let them know how you want it tuned, i.e. Maximum HP or Maximum MPG and they'll tune it so. Basically it's "set it and forget it" It usually runs anywhere between $250-$300, depending on your location. After that you're good to go.
I assume I just need a PC for them to tune it like that?
Yep. Look at DynoJet's website, they have a listing of Dynotune centers. Call a few and get pricing and go with your best option. Although their website says that the Power Commander IV is for 2009, it will also work on your 6 Gen. They only list the PCIII for earlier models 2002-2008.
haha, that I will tackle later... right now I wanna see how many pwnies i can squeeze out of mine :) Thanks again! I will dyno it stock then dyno it after I slap on those 3 things
