At around 36,000KMs the bike has started making this knowing noise at idle. It's a little troubling! It only happens after at idle after a short ride. Starting the engine from cold it doesn't knock, not when throttled. I haven't replaced the plugs yet, so maybe it's a misfiring plug, but I'm leaning towards cam chain tenders and it's probably the front one. BTW: I live in Ajax (GTA), Ontario, Canada... So if anyone in my neck of the woods has had noise and resolved it, I'd definitely like to hear from ya for fixed it locally or doing it myself.
I have a 4 day trip planned at the end of this money, so need to get this taken care of soon. Or I believe I should anyway.

As asked does it go away when clutch pulled in, mine makes that noise allot of the time & it is just the clutch nothing to worry about my bike has done it off/on since I have owned it & I thrash the hell out of it. If noise still there when clutch pulled in then very likely cam chain rattle so CCT problem. I would first try the two things that can remove that noise before replacing CCT's.
1. The CCT you need to get a small screw driver & wind back the CCT mech as you would with the special tool you make (drawing of it in service manual) & then just release, this some times resets tension & fixes problem.
2. Replace motor oil, if doesn't fix the problem at least you did an oil change.

Ok, so pulling in clutch doesn't work, still noisy. Gonna try changing the oil and filter.
BTW.. I went to two shops and they both told me it's the CCT. But both said it's nothing major since it goes away once throttled. Replace it, but no major rush.
That's cam chain tensioners. I just did mine at 75,000 kilometres. They aren't particularly difficult to do - the top one (front) is a bit trickier but if you're somewhat mechanically inclined it's not bad. Parts are about $200 including washers and gaskets and it takes an afternoon to do.
Mine sounded like a paint mixer before I replaced them. I could actually hear the cam chain slapping a bit.
