5th gen stuff

Hey - kinda going into minutiae on '98s and '99 models, but would like to bs about -- What are the differences between the '49 state models and the CA models. --- I know the CA models have the charcole canister and solenoid valving and minor plumbing differences, but what else?

The reason and curiosity I am starting this thread is I rode a buddys 49 state '99 and it seem to have just a bit more punch say 6500 + rpm over my '98 CA bike. The '99 has Helis and BLS pegs so the ergos are weird to me, maybe that was part of it.  Mine has a BMC filter, and Carbon pipe, and canister stripped,  and revs freely, but I cant get the '99 out of my head from the brief test ride. (I think I heard something about cam differences?)

Ok gang am I full of it? (Yeah, I know, too easy)

Thanks

May be something to the cam thing I seem to remember reading about here, but I've slept since then.

As for the ergos the viffergyrl's '99 has Heli's on it, and I swear it feels like a smaller bike than my stock bar'd '98.

I have 4th gen bars (lower) on mine and the difference was quite noticeable, I wasnt comfortable on the '99 at all, but it sure ran damn good at WFO.

IIRC the Cali models pre-y2k have different cams and emissions equipment. Y2k forward they are the same cams

I have a question. How can you tell if your bike is a 49 state bike or a CA model?

CA model has the charcoal canister and different vacumn lines with a solenoid. (I stripped that stuff long ago.)

- I did look up the cam p/n 's

49 state

CA

Are there really some ponys difference?  Or just powerband differences?

5hp difference, approx. And the ECU is different.

So if you put '99 49 state cams in the CA bike would you get that back? -- Or better to go to Web-Cam..

-- (Just thinking whadif for the moment... :comp13:    ---It might be some future winter farkle job, with a valve clearance check.)

Likely due to slight ignition timing differences to go with the different cam profile.
