Just picked up the bike after having the 8k mile service completed. Service at the stealership rolled into my purchase. While there, I inquired about some new tires, as I'd worn out (and was fed up with) the OEM 'stones, and needed to finish the riding season worry free.

Put on a set of Michelin Pilot Road 3's. So far, I've not had a chance to do anything other than scrub them in a bit. I'm pleased, for the most part, and I am confident they'll go hand in hand with my riding style.

If anyone has experience with this tire, let me know how they're holding up.

my oem Dunlop rear went 4,600 miles.... it was at the wear bars and could have done commute duty a bit longer, but I had a couple of road trips coming...so I changed it.

It was showing the wear though at 4,600 miles.

I put a new PR3 on, and with 3,000 miles it's showing very little signs of wear at all.

I have a PR3 up front now too, and it's a combo I'm liking on this bike.

Ran PR3's for 6k miles.

Liked them, though they squirmed a bit.

Actually gave them to another member here when we took them off, and he got a few more miles out of them as well.  Very VERY good tire in low-traction situations.

If I can have ONE tire for all the kinds of riding I do, PR3 would be my top choice.

Thanks for the reports. So far, I'm really liking the new tires. Actually, they feel great compared to the oem 'stones, but that might not be entirely fair to the original tires, as my comfort level and familiarity with the bike is greater ow than it was then.

Very happy with the initial feel. Now time to run them some more and see how they hold up.

Why the PR3 over the PR2?  I've always ran PR2s on all my bikes...

I actually had a tough time reaching a decision between the two. Truth is, I've had the bike for two years now, and have yet do do any real "sport touring". (Need to remedy that!)

I have, however, done some semi-sport riding. That said, the PR3's don't disappoint. I think the PR2's would be a longer lasting "all-arounder".

I've often wondered is the difference bwteen the PR3 and PR2 worth it in price? The PR3s are a good bit more expensive over here. I currently have Metzeler Z8s on mine, in fact they're on the bike in the avatar picture of me on a trackday and they work really well in all situations. Apparently, according to some test institute on the mainland of Europe, they perform better than the PR3 in wet conditions.

I ran the Z8's on my Ninja 1000, pretty good tire, I'd run 'em again.

The PR3 is cheaper than a lot of tires here....cheaper than my old standby, the Avon Storm Ultra II.

As to longevity, I have 3,400 miles on the rear PR3 and it's barely showing any signs of wear at all - looks new with very little signs of a flat spot in the middle from all the road trips this bike has been on in it's first two months.

Might be my new go-to tire now...
