Has anybody used a wilbers shock before, the sales guy are recomending one to me over an ohlins and it seemst o have more features than an ohlins 46DRS which costs a lot more.

Did you do a search for threads under "Suspension"? You might find some experience there until someone see this. After being on this board for a few years, I can say that Wilbers is one of the lesser used shocks, but that doesn't mean anything... Also contact member Jamie Daugherty...
My recollection is that Wilbers is a decent shock but it's Nitron that are less than desired. +1 on contacting Jamie D. Even though he is in the states and you are in Oz, he is very knowledgeable and helpful, especially about VFR suspension.
I bought a Wilbers during a group buy on this board. After fighting the set-up for years, one of the other members posted they had theirs rebuilt and the "custom built" shock had the same spring on it as my "custom built" shock even though we are at least 50-60 lbs different in weight. I had Jamie rebuild it and change the spring on it for me last December. He measured the old spring at 1030 lb and the new one he put on for my weight was a 1200 lb, so Wilbers was not even close.
Since I was riding a lot of 2-up at the time, I wanted the remote preload adjuster and the Wilbers was a lot less than Ohlins which is the only other choice for that. I have a Penske on my track bike and really like that shock. Had one on my Superhawk too, so if I was to do it over again, I would probably go with the Penske.
My Wilbers had the same problem as Douglasthecook had. It was not assembled properly/no negative sag. It was corrected later by a susoension shop.
Wilbers aparently fired the employee responsible. This was many years ago, so I hope they got their shit togethet now. Good thing you have a local shop to verify and set.
I am the other member (not the first time I have been called that btw) that Wera is referring to in his post above.
I purchased a Wilburs shock in the VFRD group buy several years ago and paid extra to have it made 6mm longer than stock and sprung/valved for my weight.
It was an improvement over the low mileage stocker but I could never quite get it to feel right. I even paid the track day Ohlins to dial in my suspension on a couple of different track days and he said he could hardly tell the difference between the low and high speed adjustments as far as results go.
When I finally a bought another 5th G it had an Ohlins on it so I sold my 01 (with the Wilburs) to my son. He weighs all of 142 with leathers on, after a heavy rain...so I thought it would be no problem while Traxxion Dynamics was dialing in my forks and checking the Ohlins to see if a service/refresh was in order to have the Wilburs sprung for my son.
When the guys at Traxxion put the Wilburs on the shock dyno it showed that the spring was around 1000 lbs (not the 1150 I had speced) and that the valving in the spring was not good even for that spring weight, which was about right for my son.
We had the shock rebuilt/revalved/resprung and he has been happy with it for the past year.
That being said, I believe that what happened with our group buy of the Wilburs was a result of an unscrupulous dealer here in the US (New Jersey to be exact).
While I might hesitate to purchase another Wilburs (it is the same price as Penske now) I most definitely will not utilize the company that was previously the Wilburs distributor for the US.
If you have another option for the same money down under then I would probably go with either a Penske or Ohlins (if they are within 5-10% of the Wilburs cost).
There's nothing wrong with Nitron as far as I'm aware, I have a Race version with Hi/lo compression adjustment on my 5th Gen & it's brilliant when combined with the Traxxion AK20 cartridges in the front forks :)
All custom shocks are as good as the person who put them together & interpretted your requirements. I have an Ohlins on my other bike & the rebound damping is crap, compression is good though. Needs a rebuild/revalve.
The Hagon shock is a good basic rebuildable shock & they do a custom version. I've used them on previous bikes & they were much better than the tired standard ones they replaced. They have limited damping adjustments, but you can have a hydraulic preload adjuster on these & most other major brand shocks.
well once i receive it, ill have to do the settings, ill probably set the static sag, and then a base line recomended settings for the rebound, high low settings
A guy from my local forum is selling Wilbers shock with remote preload adjuster for VFR800 VTEC. Can anyone help me to identify the spring rating and the recommended rider's weight for the current spring.
Thank you
