I have a 2007 VFR with ABS, recently it has started acting up when I try to start it once it's warmed up. When I start it first time in the morning it starts normally, starts first time everyting nothing unusual. If I ride a little while, stop the engine and try to restart the motor it starts to spin then it's like the relay disengages and then reengages causing a loud noise/gear meshing sound then the bike starts up.
The bike has a brand new battery that is fully charged, the bike has 16,400 miles. Once started it runs like new, never any other problems with the bike. I bought it in 2010 when Honda had them new in warehouses and was selling them discounted.
I have now had some time to try your suggestions. I removed the relay, cleaned the terminals, cleaned the battery terminals, tightened them properly and the problem still persists. I need to remove the plastic and clean/tighten the starter connections next.
I will order a new starter relay in the next day or two, I hate to pay the price Honda wants but I don't want to get something cheap and unreliable from E-Bay and do not know how to tell the difference.
Thanks for all the comments, I really do appreciate your efforts to help me sort this, I am sorry it took so long to get back to you but.....(I know I should not say it) but this year, the VFR is not the most important thing in my life, the wife, son & grandson are.
