Hi all
I've been working on doing a de-link and R1 front end conversion for a couple of months now and finally got it all finished over the weekend.
Basically, I've gone for:
2007 R1 forks (gold of course)
2008 R1 wheel
320mm Braking wave rotors
2008 R1 6 piston calipers
2008 Brembo radial master cylinder
Hel braided lines
2006 RC51 clutch master cylinder
2006 RC51 rear master cylinder
Convertibar clip-ons
All Balls taper roller head bearings
Carbon fibre front guard
I had a set of triple clamps machined up from 7075 T6 alloy from CAD drawings I made and this allowed me to keep the standard 40mm offset of the clamps and maintain the correct trail.
I've always had the standard VFR forks slid up by 10mm to make it steer somewhat faster and I've kept the same settings with the R1 gear.
Well, after getting it all back together, rebuilding the master cylinder and forks, and replacing the fork oil with 7w Maxima Racing, the thing is like it is on rails.
I've never felt so confident with the front end over our crap roads in NZ. We have lots of short, sharp ripples in the road surface that I could never get the stock front end to handle like I wanted. Always choppy.
I've included some photos etc. below.
Cheers
Phil
Just realised that I hadn't updated the drawing for the top triple clamp. I've added the missing bits and uploaded the correct drawing.
