I've had the battery (new) since I got the bike (new) in 09. Lately it's been giving me a hard time starting sometimes, mostly after being off for a short time. It started fine this morning. Went to do a quick errand at lunch, and it wouldn't start when I came out of the store. I had to push start it. I got back to work, shut it off, and it restarted, though reluctantly. It's given me a hard time starting like this before. It resets the clock and trip meters, etc. I didn't leave it on the tender all winter, just from time to time. So does sound like it's just the battery (hopefully)?
I'm likely going to get a Shorai, as I've followed them for quite a while now and am pretty impressed with them, and have heard good reviews.
I just recently installed a shorai in my CBR, first impressions are great. It will shave 6 lbs off your VFR's weight if you care. I don't ride in <30 F. weather, if you do, cold starting can be an issue.

I'm not too concerned about 6lbs, but I like the low maintance of it. And yes, I do occassionally ride in <30* F weather. It was about 32 when I left for work this morning. :cool:
Definitely new battery time. And get the one for an ST1300. Same exterior dimensions and more power!
Shorai lists the LFX18A1 as the "standard" recommendation and the LFX19A4 as the "duration" recommendation. I was going to go with the Duration one. For the ST1300, they just list the "standard" VFR one, the LFX18A1. So are you telliing me to get that one? It's actually a couple of dollars cheaper than the LFX19A4.
Well I ended up getting the Shorai, put it in last night. Rode to work this morning and had to stop for gas. Started right up with one push of the button. So far, so good.

Sorry, but i didn't see your question. It's too late, but the higher capacity battery does fit and is well worth it.

Just remember in the winter time,if you ride in the winter, when you first switch on the bike these battery give a low voltage reading and then within 5 seconds jumps up to 13Vdc or + ..
I heard that on the winter starts. I can use that time to get all my gear on anyway.
I got the higher capacity one of the two that fit the VFR. It actually isn't all that much smaller than the Yuasa, just in height. A couple of the pads on the bottom of the battery holder and it was good to go.
Most likely the battery (5 years sounds about right for a Honda OEM m/c battery), though now is a good time to check the charging voltage at the battery, clean/Oxgard the electrical connectors, etc.
