Hey guys
A friend and I finally found 4 days to zip down to NC. Coming from canada it will take us close to 12 hours to trailer the bikes to Franklin.
Franklin seems centrally located and looking for some advice on which roads are a must do.
Touristy things are not my thing but we will do the dragon at least once.
Is there anything north of Franklin that should be done?
Any guidance would be helpful and of course a ride report will follow!
Cheers
28 north to the "WORLD FAMOUS DRAGON".
Look up the routes that have been posted in past years for the TexasMac or TMac event held each spring in Franklin. You will have many nice routes from which to choose. Be sure to ride the Cherohala Skyway between Robbinsville, NC and Tellico Plains, TN. You're going to love the riding in this area.
If you only have two days, ride 28 to the dragon. Ride the dragon several times. Ride the skyway to tellico and back to Franklin. Day two, repeat.

You really can't go wrong. Is there any way you can extend the trip? Might need about a week to see / do everything. There are good roads in every direction from Franklin. Enjoy!
I second viewing the TMAC thread / routes to help your decision. The Dragon and Cherohala are good choices, but may be frustrating if you go on a weekend when the parade starts (although this depends on your pace).
Don't know if you've already done the trip, but if you're still planning it now - and if you like backroads, check out Wayah Road. It's tight and the pavement is a bit iffy in places, but there are some great curves at both ends. Be warned, however, it's a little tricky due to the things above, and because sections of the road are the same color as the gravel next to it, it's sometimes hard to see the gravel in the corners. It's worth a ride, just be cautious.
Have dates been chosen yet? I plan to make a run in a couple of weeks.
