ok, so i got everything (i think...) i need to properly install a powered usb socket in my 6th gen for my phone and such. Install will be in that black fairing piece on the LHS of the bike under the handlebars where many before me have done theirs.
here's what i got:
-12V Blue Sea Systems dual USB waterproof charger port (the one many forum members recommended)
-a waterproof on/off push button switch (the usb outlet has an LED indicator light, and while I realize that one LED isnt going to run my batt dead, i still liked the option of switching off the outlet since it will be directly wired to the batt on an "unswitched" circuit. and i wont be using it all that often)
-a water resistant fuse holder to tuck in the fairing when i wire everything up
-5 AMP fuse
I am extremely good turning a wrench but when electrics get involved i start to become wary of my skills. I have a soldering iron and heat gun and I got marine grade heat shrink tubing to seal all my connections. But here is my novice question:
With the outlet, switch, and fuse, do i simply wire everything in series and hook up the battery as in my lame little diagram below? or is there more to wiring it than that (like a ground)? also is that 5 AMP fuse appropriate for the 5V/2.1A output of the dual socket charger?and what gauge wire should i be using for everything? thanks all. Ive had my bike for a mere 3 months and I cant believe how great you all are at helping me through all my issues. :)
