I hate to ask but need some help/advise. Over the weekend I did some winter maintenance and installed Galfer brake lines (thanks Nick/Galfer). No issues with the install but then the dreaded LBS bleed...
I like the LBS when I ride but absolutely hate it when servicing with new fluids. I've done that a few times in the past with no real issues. Those times, I simply emptied the reservoirs and pushed old fluid out with new fluid. This time, all the lines were purged due to new Galfer lines so this time I started from scratch with all air in all lines....frustrating!
Front brakes are done, no issues, solid. The rear/LBS is kicking my arse. The pedal is spongy. If I pump it a few times I get pressure back but then it bleeds off w/in a few minutes. After pumping the pedal, the secondary master cylinder on the left front caliper also feels firm but as pedal pressure goes away so does the resistance at the secondary master cylinder. I can't seem to get any more air bubbles out of any of the lines. I've reviewed the service manual and all the how to guides on VFRD and am still stumped. Because air seems to be in/near the secondary master cylinder, I've been focused on the PCV valve near the battery (it is a non-ABS). Am I correct to focus there?
Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Yep, bout have those memorized but still have some air somewhere in the rear circuit of the LBS. That is why I hate to ask because all three of those are very good.
i had the same issue after installing ss brake lines, the first link if followed exactly should resolve issue, took me multiple times following the SMC bleeding to finally get air removed, need two people to complete.
I've never used one of these, but have seen them demonstrated. Rather than pull fluid through the system from the master cylinder by vacuum, they force fluid through the nipple backwards up through the system. Since air rises in the system, forcing fluid upward supposedly makes it easier to get it out. The LBS proportioning valve truly is a pain in the arse to bleed.

This looks pretty cool but wouldn't work with my setup as I have speed bleeders on all bleed points now, Check valve doesn't allow flow in the opposite direction. Cool none the less.
