I need some help ,a customer was trading his VFR1200FD to me and when he changed the battery he reversed the terminals in error and has damaged the ECU.We are at a loss Honda have quoted over 2K to repair the bike and this poor dude simply cant afford it.
If we try and start the bike before the ECU has had time to set she will start only at idle and when we turn the throttle she will die.The fuel pump is not working in the bike but when removed to an external power source she is working. We have tried another ECU from a donor bike from a breakers, and wont start her yet is working fine in the donor bike.
Any help would be appreciated if we cant fix the bike the dude simply cant afford to have Honda repair her
The fuel pump is not working but the bike will idle??
Something doesn't compute there.
You will have to follow the Troubleshooting Procedure on page 124 of the Service Manual you can download from the link in my signature or the downloads section of the forum.
If you are lucky you've fried some other part of the wiring harness or other component and not the ECU itself... which should be protected by a fuse.
Dumb question but you have checked the fuses haven't you?
Thanks for the advice Honda Main Dealer has diagnosed the fault as the ECU but we have replaced the ECU with another from a Donor bike and she wont fire so we are at a loss,Honda have said ECU isn't protected with a fuse!!!!!!!!!!
