Thank you Flo!

$331.00 on the NC700 $254.00 on the VFR Liability & Comprehensive, 3k accessory coverage $63.00 Deductible less 65.00 pay in full, for a grand total of $520.00 a year! What a bargain!

Thought I would post this in case anybody else wants to save, I also have my Homeowners ins with Progressive.

I switched my motorcycle  to Progressive from Geico and my premiums went from about $600 to $250 for full coverage.  However, part of this reduction is because my wife has some speeding tickets and I was getting rated because of that.

It definitely pays to shop around every couple of years as I have heard that insurance companies do not truly give you a discount for being loyal. On the contrary many of them punish you by incrementally raising your rates each year.

I know that when I switched to Progressive it was after totaling the VFR in 2010. But I also check out the market and play the field.... I am lucky that my rates have stayed fairly low, also having a blatant disregard for speed limit signs  doesn't help matters.

Ciao,

Thanks for the Laugh....thankfully its just in numbers, not in actions  The age defiantly helps when you get pulled over, they realize that you are not a kid. I got pulled over two weeks ago on the way home....riding the line, kind of legal lane splitting    and the State Patrol Officers that pulled me over were two of the nicest people I have met, (both younger then then me) they were very cordial, polite and while the one was back in the car, the other officer and I had a very nice conversation about lane splitting, passive aggressive drivers, etc. they never once said anything about my speed which was about 72 in a 60. They warned me about leaving more room for the other drivers?? I explained that I was just getting ahead of them

Great news!!! Better than rates going up anyways. And it's not because you recently received your senior's card, or is it...
About $100/month here no matter how you slice it, no collision.
Cheers,

I wonder if there are riders that obtain coverage for personal injury protection.  In my state it's included on auto policies, but not on bikes.   It's not cheap - about $250 per year in addition to the rate for liability and collision.

Must be nice! I'm 24 with no claims or tickets and I'm paying $260 for liability only on my 99.

It gets better once you clear 25.  I have more than just a few years on you and I pay about 20% less than that for full coverage.   People usually shop for insurance based on price - but there can be a wide disparity between experiences when filing a claim.  That's tougher to research but worth the time so you know what you're getting.

We just put some mandatory ICBC insurance on my wife's 96 VFR750 yesterday. $500K in Liability only cost $460 for 6 months. Full comprehensive and collision (with $500 deductibles on each) was an extra $1300 per year. We're looking in to,some added coverage from a private insurer that was recommended to her through the motorcycle safety course she just finished. My wife has only just got her bike license but for insurance purposes (at least through ICBC) she has been licensed and insured for 20 years with no accidents, claims or tickets, so she is eligible for ICBC's maximum driver discounts. The weather is great, the riding season is good and long, but man it is expensive to ride (insure) a bike in BC (and some other Canadian provinces).

Keeping the shiny side of the bike off the road for many years also helps a great deal!

Last time I checked I was paying only $240 a year to Progressive. Now that's really low for someone living and riding the the SF bay area!...

But I suspect that they will drop me like a hot potato with even just a small claim for a minor garage drop......

Driving insurance is just insurance for the insurance companies to be insured to always make money from their insured customers.....

So if I'm adding this up correctly, for full coverage on the bike (liability, comp and collision), it's roughly $2,200 per year.  From looking at their website, it appears that in that they do include personal injury protection, which I don't believe is standard practice in the U.S.  Is it the case that ICBC is the only option for insurance in B.C.?   Rates such as that would make it very cost prohibitive to have multiple bike disorder!

Multiple bike disorder in BC can get very expensive yes. ICBC requires you to purchase Liability insurance from them but you can use private companies to purchase comprehensive and collision coverage. The $1300 extra (sorry, wasn't very clear on that part) was for the extra 6 months liability insurance plus the cost of the comprehensive and collisionfor the full year. So a total of $1700 for the year, for full coverage. My 5th gen costs me $960 per year for liability insurance only. For full comprehensive, collision and liability insurance the cost for my 2000 VFR costs $1865/year. When I lived in Alberta a number of years ago, I was able to add a motorcycle to my vehicle policy (in essence creating a multiple vehicle policy) and the cost was an extra $240 per year for full comprehensive and collision on the bike. My car at the time with the same full coverage was $880 per year. The insurance was also based on the number of licensed drivers in the household. The more licensed drivers the more expensive the extra vehicle cost to insure.

The cost of insurance in BC is quite high and I would venture to say in Canada as a whole is quite pricey. My 2009 Mazda 5, as example, with $3M in liability, plus full comprehensive and collision ($300 deductible on both) costs $1180 per year.

Yeah pricey up here in BC. This is why I only insure and have one bike at a time. And I only insure it for the rising. Season which can be 3-5 months depending on how much time I will have that year. And I only get basic coverage as it is a recreational vehicle and I can afford to lose should it be my fault in the case of an accident. In reality my car is my real vehicle.
But there are worst things in life.
Ride safe!

Why  so  high  ?

I wish I could answer that... Maybe somebody else can.

Only reason I can think of is population and hence economies of scale.  The population of California as of 2013 was approx 38 million people whereas the population of all of Canada (according to the census) was listed as 35 million.  Lower population density equals higher cost.  Of course, the most logical reason is like BCmcrider mentions, "Because they can."

Man you guys get stung bad for insurance over there

Here in Aussie i pay $320 fully comprehensive for my 2004 6th gen

Garaged no alarm just H.I.S.S factory imobiliser unlimited use including city commuting , riding 365 days a year usage coverage this includes my Givi luggage and power commander and exhaust for loss or theft

Also $1000 helmet cover and $1000 gear cover

BUT I am old and very grey

But our registration has a third party personal injury/ property cover built into it so registration is around $430 a year

And we can get the registration cut in half if the bike has a modification plate for single seat use

This needs the rear seat made un usable(removed and a cowling fitted) and the rear footpeg brackets removed with the mounting bols drilled out
