What size socket or spanner can I use to remove the fork cap for the stock fork on a 5th gen VFR?
I know I can use an adjustable spanner, but I always seem to cuss up the head when I use one.

I think it is a 22mm.
If you mean the big silver nut on the top of the fork, then it's a 32mm. A top tip is not to do it up too tight when refitting.
I just checked on my 98. The largest metric socket I have is 22mm & it was only slightly too small. A 23 or 24 should do it. A 15/16" socket fit perfectly. 32mm would be far too big.

Apologies - they are right - I was thinking of a different fork head. I've got the original in the roof and will check the dimensions tomorrow!
Just checked mine. As MysteryRider246 rightly said, 15/16" fits well, as does a 24mm. I don't have a 23mm but suspect it might be slightly small. I undid mine with my 24mm. Hope this helps and sorry for the duff gen first time round.
