As a newby to street bike racing, I'm really looking forward to it!

Think my favorite comment from Nicky was something like "Well, the straights are a lot longer now".

Nicky finished 9th.

It was practically a Moto3 race for the first half. But maybe that's just PI and first race of the season.

Do wish they made superpole 30 minutes instead of 15. SP1 was more fun to watch because it was only race tires, so everyone was out for most of the session. The qualifying tire does turn SP2 into a one lap session.

Nicky almost got on the podium in Race 2, thanks to some shenanigans in front of him, but got pipped at the end by ragged-riding Giugliano (ask Tom Sykes about that!) The racing was close all weekend, which is good, though Rea's form is looking like it was last year, with a double win (he had four or five doubles in 2015). :cool:

Nicky looked solid with both Hondas looking good, though they seem to do well at Phillip Island of late. The new Yamaha looked very good as well and Guintoli (5th) is 1 point ahead of Hayden (7th) in the standings after Round 1. It's early but here's hoping this weekend represents the type of racing we will see this year.

This thread seems to have been abandoned, but Nicky Hayden's victory in Race 1 at Sepang is a good reason to revive it, methinks.  Congrats to Nicky for his first world-class win since, er, 2006!

Just curious, but did this achievement make any of the non-motorcycling papers in the 'States?  All I could find on Google News was one short story in a Kentucky newspaper (which failed to mention that he was a former MotoGP world champion).

Outside of a few thousand fans, Americans have no idea who Nicky Hayden is.  Sad.

I watched the race last night and was praying that he would make it to the finish.  Great ride by Nicky!

Pretty good race this round. JR needs to learn how to preload that shifter or something! At least he kept TS second win honest. Perfect second race from him. JR's post race demeanor/statements hasn't been giving me the warm fuzzies though.

very much getting excited to see what Camier is going to be able to do next year. He's made massive strides in this off-season alone. So long as Mercedes doesn't pull the funding, we might have another podium contender (unless those new hondas are the real deal). It also helps that he doesn't bin it as much as he used to.  :cool:

Wondering what happened to the dutchman? Perhaps conspiracy! The team is moving more resources to the 10 years ago champion in hopes of a win next year? 

Too bad Chaz had a bit of nostalgia from being back home (close enough) and decided to revert to the tried and true 'win it or bin it', which always ends up well (for someone else).

I think aprilia's biggest problem is the color scheme. Ever since they changed from the tried and true Alitalia black, red, green, things just haven't been the same for them. Maybe all savadori needs is a couple of cans of flat black to give him a bit more edge.
