Water Dripping From Exhaust

Hi all, ever since replacing the rear shock on my VF1000f, the bike is spraying water from both exhausts, from close to the collector box. When the engine is warmed up it is gone and it doesn't blow white smoke from the exhausts. So it doesn't look like a head gasket, or is it? Maybe I broke something or accidentally pulled a hose from the coolant reservoirs or something when moving them out of the way to replace the shock? Any suggestions?

A video might be helpful to gauge the severity of it. It sounds like you're saying this is not the normal condensation / water vapor in the exhausts while it's warming up.

If the new shock changed the rear ride height, the normal condensation might be finding an exhaust joint that it can drip out of rather than just come out as vapor - or maybe if/when you took off your exhaust, to replace the shock, you "broke the seal" on 20 years of carbon around that joint, and now it has to build up and re-seal the joint.

Water vapor is normal for the first few minutes, and if it does find a crack or joint it never seems to come out as steam, but always ends up dripping - you see it in cars as well.

My VF is the same, goes away after a little while these days.

It is cold ay night, bike oatked outside. It is condensation

Thanks for the replies. I indeed took the mufflers off and used the old seal when putting them back on. So now I proably have water dripping that before just was stuck inside.

Time for new exhaust seals I guess ; )

The normal by products of combustion is indeed water and for every
gallon of gas creates roughly 8 pounds of water vapor... we all have
witnessed water escaping out of tail pipes on cold mornings... thats
why engine temps below 180ºF or 82ºC is an problem... it means that
the moisture produced during combustion is not getting hot enough to
evaporate out the pipe as steam... instead that moisture will migrate
to the oil and produce a milky white contamination...

Larry,

Engine temps have little to do with moisture in the exhaust. But a cool engine means a cool muffler/tailpipe onto which moisture will condense.

Moisture in engine oil is from the atmosphere - unless the rings are worn. As you say, getting the motor up to temp and running it for awhile is required to eep that moisture from building up.
