:twist: �Well, �it was still quite cold when I pulled out of the house this morning (39 deg.) for my ride to Pucketts to meet for a long day's ride, but it's supposed to get to 60 today so off i go. Man it's not that fun riding in those temps and it dropped down to 33 on the back roads and I was already chilled from the 100 mph 8 mile blast down the highway. Took some time to warm up even though I had heated vest and grips !My feet were frozen, I need heated socks bad ! It was good to pull into Pucketts, knowing some heat and lots of hot coffee was waiting for me. I was first in but several guys showed inclubing a 1932 BMW , a Duc 996, CBR 600 and of coures My 02 VFR. Ended up staying at Pucketts for a hour and a half trying to warm up and when we pulled out 9:45 am it was still cloudy and 39 dec. :doh:
What time did you leave? 0 dark:30? tongue.gif I rolled out around 11:00 and it wasn't too bad. Did a nice eastward loop came back around 2:30ish to shed a sweatshirt and change into a cooler jacket. Then back out for another couple of hours. When I got back the second time my knees were pretty cold but that's about it. It was an incredible day to ride! wheel.gif
:twist: Yes, I rolled out early at 7:15 am, too early ! 1 1/2hrs breakfast bench racing, Two meal stops, three gas stops, one photo stop and rolled back in the house around 4:45 pm with 390 miles. Oh yes, one Crash clean-up ! :doh: beer.gif
:twist: �A guy I knew, but had never ridden with on a �older k75s BMW. I'm always a little uneasy riding with someone I don't know especially when it's just Rob and I. We tend to really book when were together and that was the plan, Just Rob and I, but some how we ended up as a threesome and I was worried the whole time watching him push himself and his bike trying to keep up at a reduced pace for us. We had made it out about 60-70 miles and headed down a road he knew, but heading into a reducing radius left hander he went wide and off the road up the bank and back down into the ditch. �When I got back to him he was up but in great pain on the oppisite side of the road. I asked if he need an Ambulance, he said no. I guess he hit his back and Kidneys pretty hard. We got his bike out of the ditch after a while then �I check it out, handed it over to him and off he went back home. Rob is going to check on him tonight. Glad he could ride off ! :bow:
I know what you mean about riding with someone that you don't know, always looking behind you. :shake: Glad he was able to ride back home and the injuries are no worse than they are.
I had a great ride today did my eastern trek to Center Hill Lake then when I got back rode downtown. Not sure why I went downtown guess I just wasn't ready to put her back in the berber turfed lair. It truly was a great day to ride, got up to 54 around 3:00. Of course it looks like snow flurries next weekend. :doh:

No wonder you ride so fast, you stop to eat every 150 miles. Poor guy was only trying to keep up for the next meal
I have some thoughts on the crash. �Whenever I let someone ride with me, someone I don't know, I ALWAYS let them ride in front at first so I can asses his/her skill level. �I ALWAYS tell them to just ride their own pace and not to worry if I drop behind, and to wait for me at some point if I get too far behind. �Typically, I already know if he/she's experienced or not prior to telling them to take the lead. �And, usually it's the later (inexperience) so I force them up front so they can ride their own ride and be relaxed. �And, if I'm in the rear, I never push from behind, which might force a mistake on the lead rider. �I believe it's always incumbent on the most experienced rider to take control of the group. �If you let someone ride with you, he/she is now YOUR responsibility (just my opinion). �If he/she's up front and makes a mistake on their own, and you haven't forced it, then that's their problem. �There are times when I can see someone is out front and making stupid mistakes. �Then I put them in the rear and force them to ride at a slower pace behind me thereby eliminating any involved ego.
Now, having said that, I didn't let WERA910 (Michael) and WERA 803 (Ken) ride in front of me yesterday because I thought they lacked experience. �Quite the contrary. �Michael can ride his rear end off (actually, I'm surprised he was even out and about with that sad looking rear tire � tongue.gif ) and Ken is right behind him in ability; although, they can shoot it out on the track between themsleves if I've made an error in judgement. �Me, I took up the rear and stuck close when I could and eased off when I felt uncomfortable. �I just got over one of those 24-hour stomach flus on Friday and I didn't want to jeopardize anyone elses safety or fun. �Sick or not, Michael "can do the business" as stated by someone else on another post, and would leave me behind probably on my best day. �And, that's with a shagged rear tire. �There's always someone faster.
My point? �Try to take care of those who don't know well enough on their own to take care of themselves.
By the way, WERA910 and WERA803 are truly a couple of good guys (Michael seems to be quite the character) and I'd ride with 'em again anytime. �I look forward to meeting others as well.
Alright, flame away. �Actually, WERA910's got some experience as a MSF instructor I believe, maybe he can chime in.
By the way, I guess I'm a bit passionate about this because I was one of those inexperienced guys chasing from the rear. �After that crash and experience, I quickly got myslef into track days so I could really learn how to ride. �We all start from the beginning with various levels of natural ability. �I bet you a million bucks that the guy on the beemer would have breathed a huge sigh of relief had you acted on your "gut" instinct about him and told him you were going to slow it down a bit. �You already knew this guy was in trouble.
:twist: Jim , well said and I agree ! I am usually always trying to lookout for the guy's behind me. I was not in the lead and I don't use my brakes much, but I was flashing them all over the place for him just to try and not lead him into something. He is an older very experienced rider and even suggested the road he went down on. I have never tried the letting them lead method. Rob and I are the Michael & Ken of the group, maybe not as good and we do try know everyone and their skill level that ride with us. When I meet people off this site to ride with, I always talk about riding you own pace and we will always wait for the whole group at every stop or turn.

That is High Woods for you non German speakers...this a a very rural area with a great deal of logging still present. Very good roads and very little enforcement in that area for those of us who might exceed the limit by 5 mph or so.............right Kevin?
