VFR Discussion Group -> Newfoundland Run summer 2005

I can't wait... I can't wait... It's about -6F out there tonight :angry: I don't have electricity/lighting in my garage so I can't even be out there admiring/tinkering with my baby.
So I spend these months planning for summer...

Probably set for Jul 21 through Aug 6. At least 3 of us will be departing from Utica, NY, zooming to Bar Harbor, ME to get on the CAT which will take us to Nova Scotia. Then over the next 15 days we'll travel through Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and Quebec. There will be 4 ferry rides along the way - the longest a ~14 hour overnighter from Argentia, NL back to Sydney, NS.

We're going to split up the camping/moteling. Most days we'll only be riding between 150 and 250 miles; our longest days will be the first and last two.

We'll be in Newfoundland for 6 1/2 of those days; check out out Terra Nova National Park, St. John's, and ride the Irish Loop. On our return trip we'll check out Kouchibouguac National Park.

I'm getting really psyched for this trip and it's only Jan! Anyway... any Canadian VFRDers out there who'd like to meet up along our way for a chat/meal/beer/ride - that'd be great. Anyone who knows any must-see spots or great restaurants please give us a post.

marscoast, let me know what's your itinary in PQ (Province de Qu�bec) and I see what I can recommend as for must-see spots...

Man , this sounds like an awesome trip for you guys. Should be some fantastic sights to see and hopefully some great m/c roads. :rolleyes:
I young friend of mine went solo from OK to Nova Scotia on his YZF750 when he was around 20 years old and had no plans at all just winged it ! He took 30 days and had a blast, I've always wanted to try something like that at some point !

If you make it to Riviere-du Loup (after Edmundston NB), I suggest you take the ferry across the St-Lawrence, about 90min but decent chances of spotting some whales. From St-Sim�on (other shore) you can head to Quebec (nicer way than opposite shore) or come visit Saguenay (fast curvy road with no popo takes you into La Baie, quite scenic).

You can hang out in the area or make your way to Chambord and ride to Trois-Rivi�res, nice ride along curvy St-Maurice river.

If you plan on passing through Saguenay look me up, if I'm in country y'all can have a place to stay.

Keep us posted of your plans and hang in there, only 6 months to go!!!

We'll be coming from Ontario to cross on board The Cat on July the 10th. Lunenburg NS that night, on the Cabot Trail the following day. Where ever you go, don't ignore the Cabot Trail. Maybe we'll see you on the road!

Is your trip still a go? I am in central Newfoundland. I have some suggestions for your routes and good advice while you are on the Island. Every couple years a tourist is killed on bike here. Let me know.
If I am not working, you are more than welcome to stay at the house. I have lots of room, and beer in the refrigerator. I would be more than happy to join you for a ride or two also. Keep me posted.
