I decided to upgrade my pipes and decided to go with Remus. I haven't decided which ones to go with though, Ti or Carbon Fiber. I know they are also made in Aluminum. What are the differences in the sound between the materials? I prefer a deeper, throatier sound over a higher pitched, sound. I found a sound bite on this board for the Remus, although don't know if it is the Ti or Carbon (BTW, they sounded awesome!). Are there any differences at all between the Ti or Carbon in sound or is it just a choice of materials? Any other comments about the materials (ie, longevity, discoloration etc.) would be helpful. I did download the excellent install manual posted on this board. Thanks!
i doubt sound difference would be much. i believe it would just be a choice of appearence for you. i was going to go with remus but the price i paid for the Migs was "substantially" lower

Can't tell you anything about the Ti, but I have just switched out the 2Bros can on my new 2000 VFR for a Remus Grand Prix carbon. I did this cos I have them on my Superhawk, having previously switched out from Staintunes. Remus have a nice deep growl, my staintunes had more of a bark to them. The quality of the Carbon is top notch. My choice would be purely aesthetic, which looks better on the bike to you? I like the fact they never need repacking. Plus you don't see Remus as often as most other pipes.
I run the Cortech Saddle's with a Leo Vinci Carbon exhaust. No problems. You can actually touch the cans after hard riding with the carbon fiber. I would not try that with an aluminum or titanium.

I saw your photo's, pretty nice. Is that the Max Moto Shop in SF where you had the pipes installed? I work in Marin, so going down to the shop wouldn't be a problem, and I can listen to the pipes in person. I plan on doing the install myself though. I do have the factory hardbags, so I know I am going to have to remove the rails to install the cans. Did you get a chance to listen to the Carbon ones? Do they sound any different? I am leaning toward the Carbon as I have always liked the look of Carbon Fiber and think the Remus ones are awesome. I'm not worried at all about the heat, as the cans look like they have a lot of clearance from the hardbags. Also the hardbags have heatshields. I see you're from Antioch, I live in Knightsen, which is near Brentwood. I might see you on the road sometime. I'm sure I'll hear you with those cool Remus Ti Pipes!

I personally like the look of the Carbon and the Remus is of very high quality. Probably gonna go Carbon. I checked and prices were the same. Maybe I should go one can Carbon one can Ti!
Having had both Ti and CF I'd recommend CF but that's only based on appearance. I REALLY like the Remus cans but I wonder if there's a way to reduce the "gap" above the canisters. That's the only reason (okay, $$ too) that I've not made the purchase. The quality of the CF on the Remus cans looks top notch and the finally someone is making them shorter so they fit the bike better. Similar to the Staintunes but the Staintunes tuck up in there even better then the Remus, IMO.
If you make the purchase share some pics and sound clips.
Dave, I've got a question. After looking at the link you posted it seems that the Ti is only offered for the "Street" version and the CF is only offered for the "Racing" version. Am I off here? If not it seems that would be a hugh factor that was not mentioned. Just a thought.

I'm not the one that posted the link. I did check Remus' catalog however and it shows the Grand Prix Pipes in both street (EC) and race version available in both Carbon and Ti for the VTEC. It is true that the pipes are smaller than the Staintunes and there is a larger gap from the top of the cans. AZViffer posted some great pics showing the CF Remus pipes and I think they look well proportioned. Chris also has some good pics showing the size. All in all, I think the pipes look great IMHO. There may be a way to reduce the gap by shortening the mounting bracket, although I don't think you would want to do that, especially if you have the hardbags.

I was going to install them myself, although remembered the b*tch of a time I had installing the rails for the hardbags. The whole rail system has to be removed. Anyway, looking forward to seeing the shop. Sounds like a group of people that knows their stuff. They charge $80.00 for the install which is pretty reasonable considering the amount of work alone just to remove and reinstall the rail system. If I didn't have the hardbags, I would have installed the pipes myself. I remember it taking me half a day to install the hardbag rail system due to the tight fit. Here's a little hint on the rail system. If you remove the rear foot peg mounts and rail system together they are extremely easy to put back on. It took me all of ten minutes to reinstall after putting on my new pipes. The extra leverage from the foot peg mounts made a world of difference. :idea3:

After much deliberating last season I went with the Remus GP carbon fiber with a fender eliminator. I have zero regrets. The fit and finish are superb. It is one of only a few pipe I knew of that allows you to use the OEM heat shield, so ankles will never fry. Also the pipe is shorter than the Microns and Scorpions. The sound is bassy and deep at low revs but not loud or buzzy on the highway. Just the right blend of near V-8 rumble mellow refinement.
My scale showed an 11.3 pound weight loss from the CF pipes, not too shabby!
The Ti also looks nice depending on preferences. On the black VFR I prefer the CF first, Ti second and chrome pipes last.
My bike wheelied in second gear pretty hard one day shortly after the Remus was installed. Now with the 15T front sprocket my front tire gets more hang time than many more potent bikes.
Might I ask where you purchased your Remus exhaust. Was it a full system or slip-ons? Do you have a power commander and did that affect the mapping? Sorry for all the questions but I'm looking to do some upgrades. Anyone??

Got mine through a local shop - got the price to include installation too. Did no other mods, no power commander or other adjustments. I must be one of the lucky ones, because my bike has always been very smooth with no noticeable flat spots and very smooth VTEC activation. No need for any other mods - love the sound and look, plus what seems like a little more mid-range pop from the CF Remus.
i have the cf, installed them myself in about 30 minutes, and cant think of one thing to complain about. got them from starcycle.com for about $200 less than i had seen them before the purchase....about $600.
goes nice w/ the silver too :)
