Anyone modified a 5th Gen stock exhaust?

I read in another forum, a member doing this to his 05 SV650s:

Locate the restrictor [tube] sticking out the back. This tube is what forces the exhaust to go through all the other baffled chambers.� Once it is removed it provides a straight through path.�

Drill out the tube and removed with a big hammer.

Break the welds to tear the second baffle.� No biggies as it opened it up even further.

After the tube was removed I then went in with a 1" hole saw and opened up the first baffle.� 

I still cannot believe how well it sounds.

Chances are pretty good that your VFR can is put together differently but you can take a look and see what you think.

I think this idea is a good one!
I haven't done an exhaust modification, so I'm thinking through all the steps. One, can it be done: yes. Two, can it be done to the VFR: maybe.

The VFR has a similar exit appearance to the SV650�s. Maybe all stock cans look that way (I don't look too hard.) If the VFR is similar to the SV650 I can imagine a similar modification may end with the same results as the member I am quoting. That's what I would like; stock can look, with a few dollars in good drill bits, and an end sound that's better than any $600 slip on. ... cool ...

So � VFR owners, can this be done on a 5th Gen stock can too?

I don't know if the sound would be BETTER, but it is definitely less expensive.

I would start with drilling some holes around the exhaust exit at 45 degree intervals. You might also consider taking it to a muffler shop - they will have the proper tools to remove the tailpeice for you.

What the heck, if you don't like it you can always buy a replacement for under $50 on eBay.

yes there is the sound i love but i also prefer the look of an aftermarket

:( No one can tell me if I can successfully remove the restrictor tube and remove baffles on my stock exhaust? This guy made the idea seem simple, however I don't know the inside workings of the VFR exhaust.

Please offer me some inside on the insides of the stock exhaust.

The inside of the exhaust system looks like the picture I drew.

The final baffle is removeable if you want to remove it, although it was not meant to be removed.

This link shows the final baffle being cut away from a VTR1000 - removing yours from the VFR's muffler should be similar.

I know it wasn't ment to be removed. Other than that - is their "danger" in removing the baffle I should know about? (seriously asking)

(seriously replying) The only 'danger' - and this is certainly not because you are female - is that you might hurt yourself with the power tools or screw up your muffler and have to buy another one. You might also fall on your butt while trying to pry the baffle free of it's internal welds. Or lose your balance and knock your bike over. Or some other stupid, embarrasing or expensive outcome.

i say go for it.....first its not brain surgery. second factory pipes are dime a dozen on ebay!
