Perhaps anyone out there with 6th gen wiring diagrams can help. There is a thick (14awg?) grey wire that is power only when the ignition is on, that is found under the top of the left fairing in the BLUE multi connector that has 18 wires through it.
I need to know what the wire is for cause i want to run my heated grips from it. :idea3:
(currently i run them straight from the battery but know that one day i will forget they are on)
I'd also appreciate finding out if the line is fused and where if anyone has this info.

Hmm. I have my service manual from my 2003. Not too many grey wires on the bike so here is what I found.
1. grey wire runs from the fuel sensor to the instrument panel.(I don't think this is it)
2. a grey wire runs from the turn signal switch thru 2 connectors and then to the turn signal relay.(possible)
3. the IAT sensor has a grey wire that runs thru a connector and then to the ECM.
4.the ECm has a grey wire going to the CAM pulse Generator.
Doesn't sound like any good place to tap. I'd say run a new line.

As I read the schematic the gray wire at the blue connector feeds the turn signal relay. Personally I would power stuff like heated grips as directly from the battery as possible. If I wanted the connection switched I'd use a separate relay and energize it from a switched lead.
Thanks for the help. i've dicarded the notion of using that grey wire. I agree the 'proper' solution would be to run the separate relay. I'm a pretty cheap *astard though and always look for the quick fix first. Upon further review i think i'm gonna steal a wire from the fans which is 20amp fused. I figure i'll not be using the grips when it's hot enough to have the rad fans on.
if i pop the fuse i'll then resort to the extra relay fix.
not too risky eh?
