OEM Hardbag installation?

:unsure: I just purchased a brand new non-current 2002 VFR VTEC and would like to know if anyone has installed the Honda VFR bags, and if so is it difficult?

Minor pain in the butt, as the directions aren't crystal clear if you install the top and side bags together, but even then it only took about 30 minutes for the whole thing. The big key is to not tighten bolts until you get everything aligned properly. The bags are outstanding, though - the fit and finish are excellent, and you can put quite a bit of gear in them.

Good question, Rhino. I just purchased some used hard bags off ebay. Turns out the seller was local, only about 7 miles from my house! So, I saved quite a lot on shipping. Then, thanks to VFRD member, actucker, who offered to sell me a set of mounting bracketry, I'll soon be doing the install too. :)

I'm curious. How many 6th Gen riders have the factory hard bags? I'm guessing it's maybe 50% of the 6th Gens, or less, that have them? I didn't buy them when I bought the bike, partly because I didn't think I would need them, and partly because of the extra $1,000.

I went for my first ride of the season today! It was about 57 degrees and sunny. Felt a little rusty at first, but am getting back into the swing after a few miles. What a great motorcycle! :thumbsup:

I have OEM side and top cases on my '05. They were not difficult to install. I did find that getting the top and side mounting brackets lined up together was a bit of a challenge.
I'll second okred in the installation department, although I managed to make it an afternoon project. Leave all the bolts loose until alignment is achieved... and then enjoy!
