Hello! I have a 2017 Japanese restricted VFR800 and need to replace the ECU. The part number is 38770-MJM-J31. I have two used ECUs available: one from a 2015 European model (part number 38770-MJM-D14) and another from a 2017 Australian model (part number 38770-MJM-U31). Will either of these ECUs work with my bike? Thanks for your help!

Sorry don't have an answer to that! Do you have a wiring diagram for the "Japanese restricted" version? Restricted, is that speed restricted and is that the only difference?

If you had the wiring diagram you could at least compare the ECM pin id's between the versions of ECMs. Critical items like power, grounds, 5v reference and Signal ground would all need to match up before even trying a different ECM.

HISS came with all Australian models and unlike the USA having both Standard and Deluxe we only see the Deluxe Version.

Does your bike have HISS, ABS and Traction Control?

Have you downloaded the Service Manual from this site?

Main harness number is also different for Jap version. Even for EU / AU models, although i am almost sure ECU could be replced between EU/AU

I have only US 2014 service manual

It may not help in your situation, but this is great to have.

Again! What are the Japanese restrictions you talk of? Does the bike run?

How did you manage to score a Japanese import version? Just curious.
