I have been looking to replace my 5th Gens dented front rim, and dutifully posted in the classifieds looking for one.
This morning over my cup of tea, a recent post here snapped into my head and I looked it up.
So, although the part number for a 6th Gen front rim is radically different from the front on a 5th, Terry states they are interchangeable, which would be quite helpful in finding a replacement.
So my next question is, is there a CBR600 front rim that would work also? A quick look at bearings sizes for an 01 CBR600 suggest not as the ID is 5mm wider and the thickness is 1 mm wider. The rotors carry a different number also. It may be as simple as installing the vfr bearing size as the OD 47mm is the same for both, and the rotors are a different color, but same dimensions, but I have no idea.
Just trying to broaden my options at this point. Any thoughts or experience welcome and appreciated.

Thanks Mello, I had to change my search question numerous times, but finally found a post addressing my question.
After looking online for an 01-06 CBR rim, I ditched the idea immediately. I do not track this bike nor do I ride on super perfect roads. I occasionally end up on some of the worst paved roads in North America here in Northern New England and Canada. Rt 684 and rt 84 get honorable mentions though. Because my 2001 has 6 spokes, my dents luckily ended up near enough to a spoke that it did not completely fail. I know if one of the dents I have occurred dead center between 2 spokes on a 3 spoke wheel there is a chance I'm not writing this. Mistake on my part for not doing due diligence on what CBR F4i wheels actually look like.
I am happy though I read your post about parts interchange for the 5th Gen and 6th Gen, it helps a lot. Terry's post came shortly after mine and I guessed I missed it.
From memory a late 90's CBR600F3 1995-1998 front rim works, same 6 spoke pattern, just checked axle/bearing dimension on "Fowlers" parts site, F3 uses same bearing I/D @ 28mm, bearing O/D is 5mm smaller & 1mm wider, so you'd likely need F3 spacers, it's an option if you can't source a 5G/6G rim.
AFAIK 5G/6G is the exact same rim, same bearing/seals dimensions, same discs, right side spacer is same part number, left side spacer is different part number, dunno if it actually is any wider or narrower? I would expect spacers to be a tad different as 6G uses a 2mm thicker stanchion, hence may be wider yoke centres?.

I don't think it will locate the rotors properly. But I have never actually done it, and maybe the later rotor's "dish" will account for it.
But also, F3 front rims are FRAGILE as shit. If it does work, the 94-97 VFR is a stronger wheel that is visually and dimensionally identical. But obviously a little heavier.

I just recalled a guy on the FB VFR group trying an F3 rim cos he couldn't source a 5G rim, he claimed it fit.
I ran an F3 for 9yrs as my commute bike, bounced thru thousands of UK potholes, no issue with any rim damage in nearly 40K, so ok on a lighter F3, may be not so on a lard arse 5G?
I still have a pair of F3 front disc rotors if anyone needs dimensions, fuck knows why I kept em, just sat in back of my garage collecting cobwebs.
Agreed, stick with whats known to work "Safely", last thing anyone needs is a front wheel exploding under em.
IIRC, 5th and 6th gen are the same rim, apart from colours, perhaps. Frankly, no one wants 5th or 6th gen rims--they don't fit anything else, as far as I know. (That said, now that I think about it, the VFR800X Crossrunner might have shared the same wheel.) When comparing rims you do have to account for bearing sizes and axle diameters, but also brake disc carrier bolt pattern and offset. Plus (and this is the one that you can only get if you measure actual parts), wheel hub width.
I have a couple spares you could have for free, but the shipping would not be painless... The silver one off my blue 5th gen is already getting in my way, and I'm pretty sure I also have a black one somewhere.

Note they are both near a spoke, therefore the strongest part of the wheel, and they still deformed the rim. The rider in me says a 3 spoke may not survive that kind of abuse on a 1,700 trip in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. So thanks Gaz and Capt. for your thoughtful comments indicating I might be on the right path.
For the record, I'm not worried about the weight, I'm worried about getting home.😁
