I have a 2002 VFR800 with a PCIII and some suspension mods. I am looking to buy a set of pipes and I am confused by the options. Here is the criteria that I am using to determine the best fit for me:
1) They have to look good (i.e. good fit, not too big, no huge gaps between the pipe and the bike, the finish is nice, etc)
2) They have to sound good (the stock exhaust sounds good, but it is a little quiet for my taste)
3) They have to give me some sort of performance benefit (either increases HP, better throttle response, better gas mileage or preferably ALL the above!)
I am sure these are the same things we all want, but I am hoping that some of you have some opinions about your pipes that I can learn from.
I really like the way the CF Erions look(Except for the huge billboard), or the Staintunes. But I have seen a few posts about the Blueflames (sp?)
At any rate, the most important factor for me is performance, then looks.
Sorry if the topic seems so redundant. I have yet to see someone organize the posts in a manner that would facilitate the comparison of the available exhausts.

The Lasers look pretty cool to me. I tried to post a picture of them that I stole from their website, but it didn't work. Anyway, wish I had that setup. B)
My likes tend toward the laser or the carbon fiber remus. I don't think any of the others fit the "cavity" on the vtec very well.
Of those 2, I think the lasers are just about the same weight as the original cans, so probably not much diff in power. The remus I think would have to add some hp with at least the weight advantage. The shorty pipes seem to fit in there pretty well, at least in pics I have seen.
I could not believe the difference in weight between the stock cans and the Staintunes. The craftsmanship on the "tunes" is second to none (makes installation easy). Yes they are expensive but I've been happy.

Staintunes are about as good as it gets. Excellent craftsmanship and very easy to install.
Lasers are better looking, but I'll keep my STAINTUNES.

I rode an '02 with Remus pipes and the drone at idle was unbearable! :blink:

I'm of the opinion that with the Cat. on the newer bikes, any performance gain will be minimal. Buy what fits your budget and pleases your eyes and ears. Another thing maybe worth considering is heat. I prefer carbon fiber (as will your passenger if you ever ride two up) as the cans stay much cooler.
I chose Remus, BTW.
If you have any mechanical skills at all I would build my own ( I did)look at my avatar. You can find a pair of even slightly damaged pipes that you like on Ebay and cut-off the damaged areas , shortening the cans at the same time. I prefer the look of short can myself, I think Remus has some. Ducs, RC51's, VTR's and many other have twin pipes and real nice used set's can be had for less than half the cost of any after market Vtec cans. I have several hours and around $150 in mine, I can still buy 2 sets of tires and have less money spent than Tunes cost.
But I like making thing's and saving money ! :thumbsup:

I have the Erions on my 02, and I love them. Great quality, easy to install, they line up perfectly, they sound great, they are at least half the weight of the stockers. I also really like the black bodies, they match the bike well (not too fond of the logo, but I can deal with it).

NOT Staintune carbon. My dad runs one on his 98 800 and it's just plain ANGRY. To loud. It's a good thing he's not that fast because no one wants to ride behind him. He has a sticker that states "Loud pipes save lives".......I guess thats what they do.
I originally wanted Staintunes also, but at the time I was buying pipes they were over $700! :o I'm way to cheap for that.
I decided to get stainless steel Scorpions from Pipe City.
They are stainless steel inside and out, no need to ever repack the baffle, excellent quality construction, lifetime warranty and only $450 delivered in less than a week.
I'm one of the few people on VFRD that have chosen these pipes and I'm glad I did, I've never felt like I 'settled' with Scorpions.
Oh yea, they sound great. They're a little quieter than Staintunes with the spud removed.

Because there loud is why insurance companies give discounts for loud pipes!
