I just registered here today, been browsing the pages for a while though ... I was wondering if its possible (or if anyone has tried) to put a 6th gen tail section on a 5th gen VFR, the 5th gen's tail looks so big and a bit shorter. Also, how easy would it be to put an upside-down style fork set on my '87 700??? There are almost no aftermarket "goodies" for the '87 700; I've found more for the euro '87 750 model than for mine, would some of these also work on the 700???
You're on your own regarding the 6th/5th generation tail thing. Rob McKinnon had posted a picture once of a VFR with CBR bodywork, though so I suppose anythings possible.
I have seen '86-'87 VFR750's with USD forks before. There is a website for the early VFR that shows at least one with a GSXR1100 fork
The '87 European VFR750 is basically the same as the North American version except for a few cc's and some cosmetic differences. You might want to consider a set of '89 VFR750 wheels in 17" or use Hurricane wheels.

Well, I kinda like the look of the 18" rear/16" front wheel-combination... what kind of benefits do you get from having 2 - 17"ers
I came pretty close to frankinviffering my '93. CBR 600 F4i front clip is what i was going for but the upper fairing would not clear my bars or front headers without serious modifications that my wife just couldn't see us spending right now. But damn it looks cool with that kit.pic of one>

Well, I haven't sent anything to SportRider, but I did email Cycle Canada and the editor liked the pictures.
He asked for some hi-rez images, so I snail-mailed him a CD with pics from my "Crunchy Leaves and Still Water" thread. We'll see what he says, it might get into the mag as a reader's ride type of thing. fing02.gif
How much rez does he want? Does he want a big or little write-up? Anything to get my names in lights. I think an article on our favorite bikes customization for each person is a great idea.

The easiest is to find the front of a F3, the whole enchilada, front wheel, brakes, forks which is a huge improvement and the like. I almost did that swap, seems to be pretty straight forward too. but tripped over a great deal on my 97vfr. still a good idea to also swap out the wheels both front and rear as 17s have a better tire selection. and will make the bike ride better.

Hi Rick,
The bike is in Germany at the moment (Thorsten Durbahn: www.durbahn.de) for the carbon airbox and full titanium exhaust (headers + can). I will ask Thorsten to send some pics.
All parts together, front end in mock up stages to get spacers right.
My hold-up is the clip-ons. I finally decided to get standard R1 clip-ons, cut them off and use the TBR risers, powder coated black. Can't afford convertibars right now, too many projects in the works and GF wants sparklies for Christmas.
And than there's the Frankenbike project. Still gathering a few critical parts before mock-up starts this winter. That means cleaning out the garage.
And I've started designing a 3 wheeler, like the GM Lean Machine, only 2 up and very aero.
I think I have the equivalent of ADD, except its project oriented. ohmy.gif
I think this could make a cool story - especially since Honda didn't change much on the VFR this year as expected. I think we could pitch it as a bunch of VFR owners who decided to make their own versions of what they thought their bikes should be instead of waiting for Honda to do it, and who 'found' each other on the internet. Neat.
I particularly like the variety of bikes we have here:
swiffer - fourth gen. with GSXR front end and Marchesini wheels vfrrider - third gen. with R1 front end vfroem - third gen with trick engine mods and magnesium wheels veefer800canuck - fifth gen. with RC51 front end, setup for touring with electronic cruise control and helibars
I'll talk to whylee about his 6th gen. with RC51 front end as well - he has eliminated the front turn signals on his bike, which looks cool.

If you do, get an RC51 front wheel and put the CBR's rotors on, since they fit. Kinda bugs me that someone would spend all that time changing over bodywork without checking to see how to match up the front and rear wheels.

No pics necessary right now. Needs to be a finished bike. Good idea to take pics along the way though.
