Weight savings of aftermarket exh.

How much weight is saved by switching to an aftermarket exhaust? Anybody got specs on the stock system vs aftermarket models?

When I put the Yosh can on my 2001 I weighed both with my digital fish scale; Yosh stainless weighed 5 lbs less than the stock muffler.

Sorry if this is a duplicate but I was interested in the differences of my single can on my 97 model vs an aftermarket can. Anyone weighed single cans?

Yes...the very first guy that replied to your post, Yoshimura vs. stock. The 2001 and the 97 stock weights will be fairly close, and so will their equivalent aftermarket cans.

Unless you are racing, the weight savings for an aftermarket can on your bike would be a total waste of money. If you are racing, you need a different bike to start with. If you want to change the look and/or sound of your bike, go for it. There's no need to do it just for weight reduction.

Just because I happen to have the info handy... this was written by a mate who installed a full system to his '96:

Finally got the TBR all sorted, photos, weigh in and fitted......... was a
bit late at the finish up to get her kicked over and hear it so there is
still a little tingle inside me VERY excited in anticipation of the roar it
will make!!

the WEIGH in.....
These were taken with digital scales so should be pretty accurate but it was
(me + product) - me.

OEM system
Headers and collector to slip on 6.2kg
Muffler and pipe 5.8kg

TBR system & Shark Can
headers and system 4.3kg
Shark slip on can 1.7kg

That's a full 6kg of weight reduction......... huge. (6kg = 12 lb)
Also lose the centrestand with the install which comes in at a healthy 1.8kg

So by fitting a full system (which includes the mandatory ditching of the centrestand) you will drop 7.8kg off the total weight of the bike.

If you're happy with the stock sound, a full system is probably not for you musik20.gif
