bought a new exhaust at the weekend, sounds great and looks the bizz, oval can with twin exit. Only problem is that I noticed this morning that the link pipe has turned bright yellow/gold!!! I bought the exhaust as my old one was a bit marked and detracted from the rest of the bike which is mint. Is this normal as when I contacted the company they told me that all link pipes are made from 304 stainless steel and will turn yellow when used, and that you can stop this by cleaning it every day with T cut!!!!!
How does this sound to you guys, is this normal or are they trying to fob me off!!!
If you are really concerned, get some Mother's Metal Polish or something similar. It'll remove it (mostly) and slow it's return, but it is not permanent.

Yes, it's normal, but it could eventually turn blue to blueish black as time goes by. you can polish out the darker color if you don't like it with "Blue Away" or "Simchrome", but it will take a lot of elbow grease. The lean mixtures in modern bikes makes for much hotter exhaust gasses that really cooks up the pipes. You can actually see the manifold on most bikes glow a bright red at night if you take the bike out for a hard run! I think Jet Hot ceramic coatings can also prevent the discoloration. But like most people in this forum, I like the goldish color on the pipes anyway. I'm surprised though, for the whole seven years that I owned my staintune slip-on, they only turned gold very very slightly at near the "ball joint".

I'm surprised too. I have a Staintune high mount, and it's pretty bright silver, no sign of gold at all. It's been on there about 2 years. (I've owned it about 3 months.) Hmmmmm...wonder if mine will go gold too? We'll see.

It's not the actual silencer can that turns gold, it is the pipes leading up to it from the heads.
