Frame rails HOT...

Hi Everyone,

I replaced my stock 2001 headers with headers from a 98-99 VFR. At cruising speed 70-80mph the temperature is 170-175 normal for my region. Once I get off the freeway/highway and into street traffic the temperature reaches 215-220 in less than a minute. After an hour ride I noticed the frame rails got really hot. Is this due to the header swap? I plan on installing a power commander by the end of the year. Thanks for Everyone's input in advance.

This is probably due to the engine running leaner and hotter. Those temps you quoted are not unusual

What can I due to reduce the higher than normal temperatures? Will installing a Power Commander help out? Thanks...

Yes fitting a Powercommander will help because it is designed to control the air/fuel ratio, and you will program it to make the engine run richer.

How about not worry about it and ride??? Your VFR does have self preservation algorithms built into the PCM if it gets too hot. If it detects over limit temps it will engage a limp home mode.

No worries mate...if your new(ish) header is not touching the subframe, just ride and enjoy. I get 215 in heavy traffic and don't bat an eye.

Yep it's definitely the header. I don't want you to burn up your engine so I will send you $50 and you can send me that foul 98-99 header. 491.gif
