Hey guys I just read in the 6th gen topics about the 3 white one's they showed I thought that was pretty cool! Barco loungers of sportbikes goofy.gif ! The show over all is dissapointing though. I must say that I did learn one thing though! That rossi guy went to wheelie school and I did my first wheelie today from going by their explanation of rolling 25 mph and hitting the throttle hard I got the front off the ground a little. but my back wheel wobbled abit according to my friend who was behind me. I jerked up hard on the bars to try and get the front off the ground and it worked just a bit wobbly any tips?
I can't wait to perfect the wheelie and take my riding to another level! The feeling of getting the front wheel off the ground was so freaking awesome! Feel free to share your first wheelie experience here.
Use 2nd gear clutched wheelies, it is more difficult to do, but much safer. Search here for more information there are many, many, many, many, many posts on it. wheel.gif
I like to cheat with my vtec, I just run it up to (barely over) 7k, then quickly throttle off/on/hold it (in first) for 20-30 yards, and let it down gently before I run out of revs and end up slamming the front end... works best with a half tank of gas or less, and definately cover that brake! Don' t do them where anyone else can see you, either, it's not worth the aggravation. Remember, that girl you're showing off to could be the daughter of the local chief of PD... tongue.gif
Yeah i do that with my vtec too but one of the first times I tried i had my wheel up under 7000 and the vtec then kicked in i thought i was going to be laying on the ground with the bike riding me it pulled me up so quick it was a little freaky

I will try not to do any in traffic! I basically took it to 25 chopped the throttle and and rolled back on it and it came up. I let off pretty quick making sure not to go to far I really need to be smoother with the throttle in order to keep in in the balance point. Thanks for the feedback.

If you chop the throttle in 1st with the front end high you are going to destroy your fork seals. Using first gear is also very easy to send you over backwards. Learn 2nd gear and slipping the clutch. Safer, consistent, easier once mastered, and more impressive as easier to upshift and keep riding it further in higher gears.
I have to admit that I pulled a total squid wheelie with mine the other day. I was heading down my street, had only 2 bars on the fuel gauge and was in first gear after making my turn onto the street. I decided that I would just grab a whole bunch of throttle at about 8K and she came right up in the air, like 3 feet off the ground. My fiance was behind me in our Jeep and when I pulled into the driveway I got an earful.
I am sure that it looked really cool though, laugh.gif
VFR666, Aug 23 2006, 12:41 PM so I should jsut search for how to do it?
Just Google squid.gif

Actually I love wheelies way too much! On the Vtec I clutch it up in 1st and can power it out through 2nd on a good one. My 5th gen is a better wheelie monster, up in 2nd with ease. Both bikes have 1 down front sprockets! fing02.gif

Is it that easy? I have trottled hard in high revs in all gears and the front end has felt lighter but wheel didn't leave the ground. I don't want to do huge wheelies, just lift the front end a little. I'm beginning to think it isn't possible to do a wheelie on a 5gvfr purely by acccelerating only...or is it?

On your 5th gen you should be able to just run the speed up in 1 gear to like 7-8000 rpm, then just close the throttle and snap it back open(full) while rocking your weight back. Should come right up. Be sure when you or anyone is starting or doing wheelies all the time that you keep your right foot over the rear brake pedal. If you happen to get to high or start to go over backwards, just tap the rear brake and it will drop the front end right now! Safety first! fing02.gif wheel.gif
I got a chance to pop my first wheelie by accident the other week. New tires, 1 down in the front, and just let it rip from the traffic light, and booom...my front end just lifts up probably about 2 feet. I was excited, scared shitless (for a second), and left with a feeling on wanting more (similar to blueballs) Hehe.
I have tried a few times to attempt this brilliant manuever again, but no luck. Back to wheelie techinque readings. But I worry about what many have said about the bike being heavy and messing up the front seals/forks.......that would not be tooo good blink.gif . Guess i will just have to keep her down below two feet. wheel.gif
Seriously, posting "safety first" while giving instructions on doing a wheelie! Yeah right.
If you want to ride on one wheel, get a unicycle.
It isn't safe, you are adding greatly to the risks that most of us try to diminish. If you really have to... do it somewhere I am not. Worse, someone with even less skill is going to see you do it and thing they should try it.
Consider owning an inexpensive dirt bike, you would be safer doing this (out in the dirt, etc), it is more socially acceptible (if you will), and instead of the cost of replacing your forks, triple tree and all the plastic on your bike, you would also have a pretty nice moto (or motoard).
Also consider, this guy thought he was experienced enough to have these people video his $10,000 (R1?) flip. If you didn't like this video google "wheelie crash" in their video section.
This guy found a nice place. Away from traffic, nobody watching (accept his camera man). I guess he thought his wheelie was going to be longer because he has the camera man standing so far down the road.
Okay, enough fun with me watching google videos tonight. Everyone gets my point (some likely enough to make mad and get some contra-posts (which is okay)).

Yes, it is really that easy if you follow the instructions Bailey gave. It also helps to be down a tooth on the front sprocket, and with a power commander, biggrin.gif

Here comes the contra-post... Who are you to tell people what to do and what not to do? Do you ever speed, or go through turns higher than the posted speed? Ever passed on a double yellow? There is nothing wrong with wheelies ? they add risk for sure, but riding at all is a risk; hell, getting out of bed is a risk. People manage risk in order to enjoy themselves, they make their own decisions and live with the consequences of their actions.
The problem I have is people doing wheelies in view of the general public on public streets. The problem is not the wheelie, it is the person doing it that is the problem and is bad for the image of sport bikers.
I enjoy wheelies but never did them in public view, and have mostly quit as I got tired of wearing out the center of my rear tires even faster than they already do here in the flatlands.
The first and last video are why I recommend people use second gear and clutch up their wheelies. It is MUCH harder to make the front end come up, and takes a lot of practice, but is much less likely to send you over the back, and the engine braking is not as much in second which will prevent blowing fork seals when you chop the throttle.

While I do appreciate your reaction to :squid:ly behavior, I do not promote it especially around the public. As always my intention is to advise in a way that at least considers safety and these guys are already trying to do wheelies I'm just adding the Most important safety suggestion for people who are already trying it or plan to. Wheelies are Very dangerous and it is the tipping over backwards part that causes 90% of wheely crashes and it is my tip that will eliminate this most common crash factor. So yes, Safety First. Just as I would advise You to wear every piece of protective gear you can buy before riding and especially it you plan on hitting the twisties! I love our Sport and realize it's hazzards. I hope that whatever we do we at least think of the consiquences to ourselves and other's and if were pushing in any way that we do it away from Joe Public. fing02.gif
Now where are my bike keys, I just ran out of Whiskey. wheel.gif
PS I raced Dirt Bikes for 7 years and could do wheelies through all 6 gears on my 250, so it's kind of a natural thing for me. I Did bust my A$$ many times showing off though! rolleyes.gif
OK, so at the Gap ride we'll be having a wheelie contest. Here are the rules:
The participant must slug down a 12 pack of their favorite beverage (shots for those that prefer the stuff in the big bottles)
Safety gear is NOT allowed. No helmets, protective pants, jackets, gloves or boots.
Wheelies done while going around corners at the gap are given bonus points.
Bonus points are also awarded for having a passenger on the back.

Lighten up. Wheelies are something some people do to blow off steam. I don't make a habit of it for fear of wadding my bike up but I don't think less of people who do. If done in the middle of no where, what's the harm?
My '00 (down 1 in front) will come right up in first if I scoot my rear back so it's touching the back seat cover. A little weight shift goes a long way. I don't like the throttle chop method as it seems very chain-unfriendly. But overall, I agree with the "get a dirtbike" sentiment. You can wheelie your ass of all day then.

Ok, so obviously you are too busy telling us how to ride to read the forum rules. No crash pictures or videos allowed. Doing a wheelie to show off is a problem, doing a wheelie on a backroad with no traffic for your own pleasure, not a problem. Just don't be an idiot about it, if you are smart enough to make the decision not to do it in public, then you are also likely smart enough not to ride outside of your abilities.

You making fun of me again? tongue.gif Like BLS says, Have a Wheelie Nice day! goofy.gif
Heavens no baliey, you are mearly putting on a clinic when you preform a weelie infront of a crowd, not showing off. Most people learn by example and visually, so there has to be a teacher somewhere.

Hell Chris, I'd kill myself trying to do one in front of a crowd..It's the old "Hay watch this" I'm affraid ! wink.gif
I found on this site a link to a vid that shows you how to wheelie. it says untill you perfect firt geat wheelies don't try anything else turn the video off. It shows ppl going 25 mph or so then hiting it and trying to learn the proper throttle control to keep it up longer and longer.
