i am buying a 1991 honda vfr 750. this is going to be my first bike and it needs a little work, i need to find some of the pieces for the fairing. where can i find these at, also i need a left side foot peg and bracket. any help would be appreciated.
Welcome aboard. Do a search before you post next time, this has been discussed and re discussed time and time again. Very few places have the 3rd gen fairings avaliable, they are quickly becoming very scarce. Try ebay to get one that isn't too messed up and fix it, or fix the ones you have.
i have been searching ebay and cant find any. the ones i have are pretty messed up and busted or missing, the bike was llaid down. i have to replace a few other parts such as both levers, mirrors, wind screen and fairing pieces. i am only paying a thousand for the bike and it starts right up and runs great.

Welcome! You can, of course find used parts on eBay if you are patient. For the rest of us: If you want new OEM parts, try places like Service Honda, Ron Ayers, etc. There is a "links" database here (in the menu near the top) that has links to all kinds of online retailers for different kinds of parts.

Welcome from me too. ebay is still hard to beat for the number of parts available online. The other parts suppliers are great too but usually more expensive, but the parts are new instead of beat up as they are on Ebay.

I am a lurker and for some time I have noticed this behavior from a few members and I just smile at my screen when I see the "search police" slap new members. biggrin.gif I think the search function can be helpful, but members are coming and going and sometimes there is new information that new members posses that does not show up in previous posts. I do not see the harm in new members popping in and asking questions right away. I use the search function and it is mediocre at best. Lots of wading thru info. In this day and age we all want instant gratification and excluding a few people, most members are happy to give their 0.02 regardless if they had just answered the same question a week ago.
Personally I think it makes new members shy to even ask a question (which is really what this site is all about) I know I have been reluctant to post because I do not have the patience or the time to go thru 6 pages of previous posts when I do a search. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
And........WELCOME. I have learned so much about my bike, riding, and etiquette from this site.
With the new automatic purging of old topics, most of the old information is long gone. The search function is useless unless the topic has been covered in the last 120 days, or whatever number of days HS has it set on. The only stuff that is still here is probably "what oil?", "what tires?", etc.

This is way too funny. I've always just thought that if someone had a "legitimate" question about parts, mods, etc......that a member could chime in or not. Pass if it has been hashed and rehashed. Their choice. Questions like whether a Gixxer engine could fit in a VFR frame could officially be slapped!!
I have actually watched members ask a question only to be followed by Chris2992's response of "use the search function" Cracks me up. No offense Chris2992, but you are predictable. Hey ebay may be the best place. I have been looking for some pieces myself for my 1996 vfr and find far and few betweeen. But I have seen some for your model from time to time so just be patient. Most of all welome and the best of lck with your new pride and joy. fing02.gif

Hi Jeremiah. Welcome to VFRD. I have a 93 and I have yet to find a source that has all teh plastic availabel. Thrun motorsports has some of the plastic, but the cost is not cheap. Service Honda seems to have the lowest price on parts and plastic. Maier seems to only make windscreens for the 3rd Gen now, at least that is all I can find on their site.
i just wanted to thank everyone here for the welcoming and all of the info. you guys have been so helpful, another problem is something to do with the clutch, i think it is because the resevoir is empty but not sure. the problem is that when the bike is on and you put it into gear it shuts off immediately, the resevoir is empty and i am thinking the clutch isnt engaging because of it but if any one else has a solution i would be glad to listen.

I hope it's this simple, but there's a switch built into the side stand that kills the engine if you try to put the bike in gear with the side stand down, or vise versa. If the switch is bad or shorting, it could cause problems, too. That's scary that the clutch res. is empty. Hopefully, there's not a leak somewhere. Beyond that, once you fill it and bleed it, you should be ok in that department. Get or download a service manual! It will you save lots of time and frustration. Joe posted one here recently.
okay i will try that. i havent tried to put it in gear myself but the guy who has it told me this. i done know if he even had the kickstand up when he put it in gear or not. who knows. but i will try the fludi and then check the cutoff switch. thank you
I just saw your location.. If you have an extra or empty day off, maybe I can make a trip over and help diagnose a few of the problems... errrr, at least sit there and look at the bike with you.. I think I have good knowledge, but I will not say I am an expert until I am beating fairings with Ben Spiess and Matt Mladin at the next AMA races.... idea3.gif

Now for some help, If the clutch MC is empty, then there is a substantial amount of air in the system not allowing the clutch to disengage, even when the lever is pulled all the way in. Then when you are setting on the bike with the front brake applied (I hope), and you pull the clutch in (that isn't working) the engine is still spinning the main gear of the transmission. When you go to bang the bike down into first gear, there will be a substantial clunk, followed by a lurch forward, then the engine will die. This is all because the bike is trying to drive forward and with the brake applied, it can't so the only other option is to die. Solution to the problem. Hopefully someone pulled the clutch cable off at some time and drained out some of the fluid, in which case you should be able to mearly flush and fill the system, if you (dare I say it) "search", HS has a write up on how to do the clutch and brakes in the how to section. But more likely, you have a clutch hose that has a crack in it and it is leaking causing the fluid to drain down. This will require a new clutch hose. Worse yet, there is a crack in the mastercylinder or in the slave cylinder on the side of the engine. When you get the bike, it will be much easier for us to help you with pictures and such.
Now, why are you going to get this bike? It seems like you are going to spend more money tring to fix it up and make it rideable than you would buying a used 4th or 5th gen, which have way more readily avaliable parts. Don't want to scare you away from the 3rd gen, but they are becoming hard to find parts for and expensive once you do find them.
Edit: I just saw where you are only paying $1000 for the bike, this is a good price so long as there are no other major issues. You should be able to fix it up and still come out in the green on the deal.
another question is, how do i convert the exhaust to the left side? i have seen it on a few of the vfr's and it looks really good because you can see the whole tire. i have a yoshi exhaust and dont want to lose it. is this possible?
so it would be best to just leave it on the right side i guess. another question is what all years is the third gen, or what all years can i get body parts for that will match my 91.
