Winter Storage..

Hello all,
Well....up here in Canada the colder weather is coming up faster than....well, any other bike besides a VFR. Now..in years gone by I have always drained all the fluids, including the fuel in the carb bowls, removed the battery, added fuel stabilizer, and put a teaspoon of oil down each cyclinder. I wonder if I am overdoing it. I may be saying this because I don't want to remove the bodywork if I don't have to, for fear of breaking any tabs. Is the oil-down-the-cyclinders really that necessary? Plus, I only put about 2000kms on the new oil, coolant, and plugs that I changed in the spring.

I'm wondering HOW one could fog the cylinders? On a car you can easily spray the fogging agent down the carbs till the beast stalls out but it would seem a tad more dififcult on the cycle (probably do-able though). Why wouldn't you fog the cyclinders? Or at least a teaspoon of oil down the cyclinders to ensure lubricated walls in the spring. Hey...what do I know...this is what we used to do in the 80s ...before the internet. It really is a bit of work though. And I have yet to get a detailed description on how to safely remove these side panels without cracking tabs. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/smile.gif)

Last years threads, generally show the consensus of,

Fill the tank to the brim
Stabil
Change oil
Get both wheels, off the ground
Remove and charge batt, monthly. (Or batt. tender).
Cover

--If critters are the case--
Plug the exhaust
Plug the airbox
Find a means to get the little suckers.


Don't run periodically
Don't fog the cylinders

Flame on! LOL.
