I think either will work; however, the vendor's site states that you should match the lamp color to the lens color for best effect. We'll see if they're right.

couldn't hurt.

the hibeam indicator might be a litttle dimmer being blue on blue, but that might be a good thing at night on the highway!

That looks great thanks for sharing your experience.....I will definately do that some time over the winter...:-)Tom

I just order mine in red. I will post up a pic if it turns out like I want. Otherwise I will be ordering blue. I will keep in touch.; lurk.gif

I used the 5 led wide angle blues in my gauges. I didn't replace the signal and neutral lights, just the gauges.

Did you ever get a chance to install the red led's for your VFR??????????

I'd like to try the red also if it worked out ok for you...thanks Tom

Well, I finally got my LED's installed. I like them a lot. Too bad I can not test drive the bike with them until next March.

The only dim spot seems to be the lower left corner of the speedo, you can still see it, but I don't use that part anyway. Thanks for the idaes to to this Mod guys. I am really pleased with the outcome.

Blue Gauges The Blue LED's are fantastic, no?

DonnyBall, your picture probably didn't come out well due to the low light and close range. Can you increase the shutter open time on your camera and/or take the picture from further away? I'd like to see your gauges in focus. I may switch from blue to red someday, and I'd like to see what they'd look like.

(Too bad this thread got trashed in the dB meltdown...)

I put blue LEDs in my 5th Gen.

I left them in the LCD, but have taken them out from behind the speedo and tacho. During the day you don't really notice that you have changed the colour, actually you can probably see the gagues without any lights at all. At night they look really great, (as in the photo above), but at times of low light the blue LEDs made the speedo and tacho impossible to see.

When I say times of low light, I'm talking about going through a tunnel, or at dusk when it is just starting to get dark. I believe the problem is that the numbers on the face of the gauges are green, and the blue LEDs trying to shine through the green makes it hard to see when it isn't totally dark.

See how you go, it may not worry you, but I got so sick of not being able to see the gauges properly that I pulled the dash apart just so I could put things back the way they were, except for the LCD.

Looks good, Donny! I've almost forgotten what mine look like. My bike's been off the road for over a month because of the shock swap I'm doing. sad.gif

It was all there before the crash of 2006. There were great pictures and told you step by step which ones to replace.

I bought mine at www.SUPERBRITELEDS.COM . I went with the WLED 5-LED Wide Angle LED bulbs. Their website is very informative. And the polarity DOES matter on these. It only takes 5 in my 4th gen bike and they are 2.99 each plus shipping. Hope this helps.

I thought I'd repost the pertinent info from my original posts in this thread, seeing as they'd been lost in the ether.

First up, a pic of the back of a 4th-gen cluster, with colored circles indicating which color LED goes where:

Next up, a mostly useless pic of the LEDs I purchased:

The parts list from superbrightleds.com:

5 blue WLED 1-LED bulb @ $1.49 <-- These replace the instrument cluster lights, circled in blue above.
2 red WLED 4-LED bulb @ $1.59 <-- For the fuel and oil idiot lights.
1 green WLED 4-LED bulb @ $2.59 <--For the neutral light.
1 blue WLED 4-LED bulb @ $2.59 <-- For the high beam, circled with the thick blue line above.
3 amber WLED 4-LED bulb @ $ 1.59 <-- For the turn signal indicators and the sidestand indicator.

Subtotal: $ 20.58
Shipping: $ 5.00
Grand Total: $ 25.58

The final product:

Notes:
1. Fairly easy upgrade, as long as you don't mind removing most of your bodywork.
2. Polarity is important (both bulb-in-socket and socket-in-cluster)! Make sure ALL your LEDs work BEFORE you button up.
3. The 4-LED lights are BRIGHT! Upon reflection, one would do well just to use the 1-LED versions throughout and it would look just fine (and save a few bucks). The upside is that I can read a map (or a book!) by my neutral light now.
4. The low fuel light does not go out completely when replaced by an LED; it merely dims halfway (estimated), then goes full bright if fuel gets low.
