I don't think anyone should feel too bad about dropping their bike. My first unscheduled get off occured when I stopped to talk to some friends for a few minutes, the proceeded to get off the bike without putting the sidestand down.

It's a very, very, VERY naughty thing to do.

It happened to me Friday. Happens to everyone eventually. And I did, in fact, feel bad about it, but not for too long. At least there wasn't any real damage, just a couple bent levers - with gives me the perfect opportunity to upgrade to Pazzos!
Without having to replace the front brake lever I'd never be able to justify upgrading to Pazzo levers. HAHA - Bonus!

That depends on your OS. If you're running HD 95, remove helmet, commence banging. Repeat until you no longer want to spend $30K on a motorcycle that makes Chinese build quality look good.
If however you are already running Honda, specifically the VFR edition, a simple tap on the side of the helmet should get you back on track.

That was when I had the '94. I haven't done any "modifications" to the '00. *touch wood*
The first time I dropped my viffer was in my driveway; I popped the clutch accidentally while gearing up. I ususally start her up to get her warmed up and put on my helmet & gloves and couldn't keep her upright after the clutch popped. I dropped her again a week later on the other side while having my photo taken with the bike, how embarrassing. I was trying a slow maneuver when I dumped her. tongue.gif
When i bought her, she was hardly EVER ridden and was factory fresh/clean...now she has 'character'. Bent brake handle scuffed up oil pan cover and scrathes on the cowl are the obvious damage. But then i found the silly center cover...read on:
When I dropped the bike over that first time, the weight of the bike on its right side pressed the rear brake pedal inward causing the retainer or 'snap' ring (a small round ring that is put on with a special tool) to pop off of the shaft that holds the pedal on. It is designed to pop off rather than break. It holds the rear brake pedal on its shaft. So the brake pedal was pushed back and into a depressed position.
Well, I recovered the ring and washer the day of the incident but thought that it was an extra part or something my mechanic buddy had left in the engine compartment because I roughly examined the entire bike for the placement of this part.
When I played with the brake pedal more, I discovered the problem and pushed it back into place with no damage to the system. The ring fits right onto the shaft that holds on the brake. I checked the adjustments and operation as well. So I am back in business. I just need to be more aggressive about keeping her upright! Maybe work out my legs more, LOL!
Funny part: Among the loose articles I found after lifting the bike upright, I also discovered a small black pentagon-shaped plastic cover about 2" to 3" in size and tried to find where it popped off of. After exhausting my search, I tried the Internet and found that this is a common occurrence in tip over.
One forum user likened it to the yellow pouch/flag that referees toss when a foul on the field takes place because it only comes off if the bike is tipped, LOL! I suppose the bike protested and called foul.
He didn't say where it went, but offered clues. I discovered that it belonged directly underneath the dash on the underside of the center fairing above the front tire. Who knows why it is there. <shrug>. However, it pops out when the fairing is flexed. Funny, eh?
