Hi All, Can people tell me if an RC30 exhaust system will fit a '91 RC 36?? Danny unsure.gif

The 1st and 2nd Gen exhaust won't fit a 3rd Gen (RC36). The RC30 came out in 1988, so I guess the question is whether the RC36 engine architecture is based on the RC30?

It might be - the 5th Gen engine is basically an RC45 engine.

BLS?

It would likely bolt to the bare engine, by that I mean the exhaust ports and studs are likely in the right place, but the RC30 exhaust tubing located further down the system might interfere with other hard parts of the bike (VFR that is).

The RC30 and the '90-'93 VFR share a bit in the engine department.

IIRC, member VFRoem is building a super-viffer from a '90-'93 and he's used quite a few internal engine parts intended for the RC30, plus the carbs.

Judging from photos of RC30 engines I have seen, the engine cases look almost identical to the 3rd and 4th gen engines. If aything would be most different, I think it's the top end architecture. At least for the 4th gen, I have heard that it's head on the street bike was designed to be a little more compact than the RC30's, and maybe there might have been changes to the valve angles. I would think that it could possibly affect where the exhaust header locations would be.
Just bringing this up by memory, so I'm not 100% sure.

The biggest difference is in the exhaust port direction.

On the RC30 rear head they both angle to the right of the bike and the front angle outward.

On the RC36 the rear ports angle inward toward each other and the front ports are not angled at all.

Cheers guys for your input, i'll stick to chasing one from a '90/'93 model. wheel.gif

If you want to drop some weight from your bike and improve exhaust scavenging, get a set of stock headers from a '94-'97 VFR750. Then go and get them Jet-Hot coated.

They bolt right on 100% and eliminate the enormous collector box underneath the '90-'93.

Only drawback is you lose your centerstand. unsure.gif

Well, the collector box from a (97) VFR750 ain't that pretty either...

Uhhh..there are collectors under the engine where it goes from 4 to 2 to 1 pipes. but no "box" (which some people call the "boom box"), which I think was what the previous poster hinted at avoiding adding to the bike. The box adds volume to the exhaust sytem and I think, also act as a resonator.

You are correct. fing02.gif
(just sat on my knees looking under the bike....)
got the camera out and this is how it looks:

So does the 4th gen. bikes have center stands? Why would the 3rd gen. center stand need to be removed if adding an exhaust system from a 94-97?

Because the 3rd gen collector box is an integral part of the centerstand mounting scheme.

Lose it = lose the c-stand. :(
