Y2k Mirrors On A Pre 2k

Do I only need to order the mirrors and the new black bolts or do I need any other bits, to form a good transition?

That should be all you need.

I think you need different rubber bits that go between mirror and bike... could be wrong though.

Mirrors: lhs is 88120-MBG-D01 rhs is probably D00 at the end, but any parts fische will tell you that.
Rubber: 88113-MBG-D00 x2
Bolts: 96600-06016-07 x4

I have these written down ready to buy...

silly question here, but what is the diffrence between a 2000 mirror compared to a 99 or 98 mirror. i have a 2000 and have only ever seen my style of mirrors

Earlier mirrors have the dreaded condoms. angry.gif Y2Ks are big sexy time!

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the y2k mirrors also stick out a bit farther for a better view?

And a "plug" for JoeW - my '92 is no longer "Sight Unseen," as I'm now in Florida and riding it around on vacation. I bought the bike from JoeW last summer, he graciously agreed to sit on it for me until I could get down here, and the bike is exactly as he represented. He's as good as his word, and a nice guy, to boot.

whats wrong with the condoms, do they break or is it just a personal preference with the look. cant you just take te condoms off?

Too bad as they were a great source for OEM parts at fair prices.

Just talked with JoeW this last week, bought my R/R from him and said that before spring I would be getting a full set of y2k mirrors also.

JoeW is the man with the hook-ups on the y2k mirrors. Send him PM and I am sure he will get right back to you. He got right back too me.

To be accurate, JoeW is the parts manager for a Tampa-area Honda dealer. Don't recall the name of the dealer (Pro something?), but he will be around shortly, I'm sure.

BTW, Joe, I'm still down here, but had the '92 shipped back to WA because I liked it better than my '98 that has half the miles. I'll do a comparo between the two when I get back and sell the "loser" (they're both great bikes, so neither one's a loser).

It says on the site that its for the 5th gen VFR's but not sure if it includes the bolts and gaskets

I got the same ones on ebay for $25 +shipping. $70 would be a mistake. [If you are gonna do $70, spend the extra $30 for Y2K] I don't dislike the mirrors, but they are cheap. They are an ok alternative if you don't want to spend the money on the Y2K version. They are much smaller and you must move your arm to see behind you. Didn't bother me too much, cause I moved my arm with the stockers anyways, just to make sure I saw everything I could. [image: gallery_5608_906_200191.jpg]

That should be it. You need the gaskets that conform to the shape of the Y2K mirror's base and the Y2K bolts SHOULD fit as well.

I just looked at the fiches for the different years and the specs are as folows:

'90-'93 takes a Bolt, Flange, 6x20
'94-'97 takes a Bolt, Flange, 6x18
'98-'99 takes a Bolt, Flange, 6x18
'00-'01 takes a Bolt, Socket, 6x16

Now the 4mm difference might not matter because the newer mirror base may be that much thinner than the older one.

Worst case if they don't fit, source some metric allen head bolts from Edmonton Nut and Bolt in the correct length.
