6th Gens Vs Older Models

Before you read on, if you're a 6th gen rider or female and easily offended, I suggest you not read this. I don't think I step too far out of line, but I'd rather not receive hate email for expressing my humble opinion in comparing these two bikes and then comparing the bikes to women. This is still rated PG for those of you who are worried.....
Sure you want to read on??? OK here goes:

Soon after I bought my 97, I often considered "trading up" to a newer 6th gen model. The idea of fuel injection, a larger engine, and a faster bike all appeal to me, so when I went in to the dealer to pick up some touch-up paint this afternoon, I found the time to test ride a stock 2005 VFR.
The 6th gens are noticeably smoother, quieter (it was hard to judge RPM by sound on the highway), only a little quicker, and the ergos are slightly more friendly with more wind protection than my 4th gen. I even lifted the front wheel off the ground unintentionally getting on the highway, which never happens on my 4th gen. I'd also like to say the new red, white, and blue paint job on the 07 is totally sweet (they wouldn't let me ride that one). On a quick side note, there was an 86 VFR 700 with about 24k miles there completely restored with all sorts of aftermarket toys, including a Laser exhaust, kn air filter, and braided steel lines all around.
So did I trade in my 4th gen? Sounds like the 6th gen is a hands down winner.....
......

No freakin way! The total riding experience isn't even close. I LOVE the bark of the Two Bros exhaust on my 4th gen, and just thinking about that alone makes me want to go ride it NOW. I was told that an aftermarket exhaust is available for the 6th gens, but does it make THAT much of a difference?? It sounded way too much like those wimpy sounding I4s, rather than a V4. Additionally, there is something about that deep growl makes it sound like you're going faster than you really are (who cares you can't keep up with a ZX-14???). Perhaps I'm wrong and I could possibly buy aftermarket pipes that make it sound just as good as the 4th gen, but then there's the VTEC.

The VTEC isn't a deal breaker, but it surely doesn't do the bike any favors. I'd prefer if it cut in about 4k instead of 7k - no, wait, I'd REALLY prefer it wasn't there at all. I didn't find it to be much of an annoyance, but I'd rather be able to use the whole engine throughout the rev range instead of just part of it. The 6th gen could look better. I liked it, but not enough to make a call to the bank. Sorta like when you find a girl who's smart, funny, in great shape, loves football, etc: you might really like her if she was just a little better looking - you still like her, but don't LIKE her. rolleyes.gif (Sorry ladies, you're all beautiful on the inside, but us guys are all foolish jerks who don't know any better and never will).
Did I mention the 6th gen doesn't sound good?

My apologies to those of you who own 6th gens - they are highly refined, easy to ride day and night, and a lot of fun. And if it puts a big smile on your face, then I implore you to keep riding it. But I certainly wouldn't want one (UNLESS it had the new red, white, and blue paint scheme - ONLY THEN would I possibly reconsider). So if you're listening, Honda, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE consider looks and sound when you're dreaming up the next VFR, or whatever it is you're going to replace it with next year.

OR I can just buy the Ducati 1098, which has tantalized me ever since I saw pics last month! Is somebody else going to get a clue and develop an all-red bike with clean lines and no weird designs??? I totally want one, and I don't care what it sounds like!!! No female comparison, here, I think I'm already in enough trouble!!

I did not like the sound of my 6th gen compared to my 5th with a two bros pipe on it..... until I gutted my pipes. Now it sounds as good as my 5th and IMO completes the package. also, now that I have put some miles on my new one, the engine is loosening up and the power is as good if not better than my 5th. I love my 6th. and wouldn't go back.

I love my 5th gen. Wouldnt waste my cash on a 6th and I do like the 1098 so............... 1098 and keep my 5th gen

^th gen will never ride as nice as the 5th gen with its geared cam

After my fifth gen was nicked, I looked for either 5th or 6th gen to replace it. I ended up with a deal I couldn't pass up for a 2004. Having owned both 5th and 6th gens I can say...

I absolutely LOVE the flat black paint. IMO it should be an option on every bike.

I much prefer the underseat exhaust.

I think the handling is a bit better on the 6th gen.

I was never a huge fan of gear driven cams.

I prefer the sound of the Staintunes over the Yosh I had on my 2000. The removable spuds really add versatility. Sometimes it's better to be quiet.

I prefer the lines of a 6th gen to the lines of a 5th gen.

All that being said, if my 5th gen had not been nicked, I would still be riding it now. I first looked for a great value, and then tried to keep the total cost down since I live in an urban environment and my bike is forced to sleep outside and interact with many oblivious or inconsiderate motorists. Having it knocked over was a reality I had to account for.

If I were to find myself (for whatever reason) in the market for a VFR I would consider both 5th and 6th gens. But I do prefer my 6th gen.

All good points. My other pole went something like this, but unfortunately the server wouldn't post the thread with two poles. Weird huh? Can I go back and add another pole?
Choose your woman:
1. Playboy playmate/supermodel of your choice
2. Plain looking female who is otherwise "perfect"
3. Who cares about women, I'd rather be riding my motorcycle

I just now got through putting up my sixth gen. after a 326 mile day on it. It ran like a top and I like it. I could have bought any motorcycle made when I bought it and I decided I wanted a new VFR. No apologies necessary. I even saw people riding Harley Davidsons today, we waved, they seemed happy, and so am I.

What other people ride and think of my bike means absolutely nothing to me. Perhaps everyone has their own preference. Geez this is a great country!!

I have a 6th & 4th gen luv them both for different reasons, I'm a individual & different from everybody else which means others may like different things to me, which is why humans have brains & the power of choice. V4 power is the key :-)

sesand, Dec 17 2006, 08:57 AMI was told that an aftermarket exhaust is available for the 6th gens, but does it make THAT much of a difference??

Well yes it does, a Gen 6 is a V4 with the same 180 Deg crank as a Gen4 or 5 but has a over efficient muffler. With Spuds out worn in Staintunes exhaust wise sounds as good as any Gen 4 or 5. To my ears and in the right Rev ranges sound a bit like a small block V8 with a nice duellies, the Gen 6 also has a slightly more exciting airbox induction noise, mind it does miss the Gear driven Cam sound of the earlier Gen's.

Back on the exhaust front, ear plugs out was purposely alternating between following a VTec with Laser's quad end cans a '05 Aprilia RSVR Factory with aftermarket exhausts and a Gen 4 with a high mount Staintune through some longish twisties last weekend and much to my supprise ( as secretly I lust after the Black RSVR Factory ) and even though all sound great thought the Gen 6 on the whole the best sounding bike of the 3...

You can't compare aftermarket to stock exhaust, not fair. 6th gen sounds awesome with aftermarket exhaust (well, minus GDC whine).
I'll take the 1098 though, not much for touring any more and I think I would more enjoy the 1098 if I could afford it.

Great topic.. glad to see you were brave enough to post . I'm with you. 4th gen rocks, I've tried out the new VFRs, Na not worth the change and loss in funds IMO, besides that, with all the goodies I have done to my beloved VFR, be hard to beat, unless you're going to be on a 1098 :) Now there's a bike that gets my attention, now if she rides as well as the cycle journalist say, I'll be getting one after I decide she's worth it. Been there, done that RSVR, only to be disappointed. it's why I have what I have, best of all worlds.

I saw my brother go through three bikes the whole time I owned my 4th gen and I still haven't found enough reason to replace it. The 5th and 6th gens DID have improvements, but they were never enough or were not the things I was looking for, to push me to replace my 95, and believe me I waited with great excitement and anticipation when the two newer bikes were introduced.
So it's still 4th gen for me, till Honda addresses all those VFR "dead horse" items that I wouldn't want to bore everyone on this site with, by posting them again. rolleyes.gif

When the sixth generation of the VFR was released in 2006, one of the more prominent motorcycle publications named it best streetbike of the year. fing02.gif Wish I could remember which publication.

I have a 2003 and am very happy with it....no issues with the V-TEC and the thing handles great!!

Wife presented me with Staintunes as a birthday gift. I can not imagine anyone thinking the V-TEC does not sound fantastic with a good aftermarket exhaust.

Most any new bike with the stock exhaust is going to be fairly quiet and subdued.

Good thread. Glad to see no (or minimal) cross-generational VFR bashing going on here. They're all terrific bikes. I voted for '6th gen.' I'll readily admit I've never ridden any other generation of VFR (yet).

I'm still fairly new to motorcycling, having bought my 1st bike in March, then upgraded to my VFR in August. The first VFR I saw was a leftover silver '05 sitting in a showroom in May and I practically fell in love with it right then and there. You could even say it was love at first sight! I almost bought a leftover red '04 in May but couldn't afford it so I waited. I checked out a lot of bikes this summer and nearly bought a new '04 SuperHawk, '06 ZZR600 or '06 FZ1. I also considered buying a 5th gen. VFR but I really wanted a 6th gen. and knew I wouldn't be happy unless I got the bike I'd been dreaming of and thinking about all summer. I even had a bid on a terrific 5th gen. in PA on eBay the same week I bought my red '04 used from a local seller who listed it in CycleTrader...when I was outbid for the 5th gen. I went ahead with the deal for the 6th gen.

For me it had nothing to do with VTEC vs. no VTEC, gear- vs. chain-driven cams, stock vs. after-mkt exhausts. Mostly it was about the style, reputation, ergos and function of the VFR and Honda reliability overall. Not to sound too vain, but a lot of it was the looks of the 6th gen. I just love the angular lines of my bike more than the rounded, bulbous ends of the 5th gen.

I have never seen or heard a 5th gen. in person. I've said many times I'd love to ride one sometime (Hint-hint to anyone in NE Ohio who has one and wants to go ride w/me sometime...we could swap bikes for a little while during the ride!) to experience what it's like - the sound of the exhaust, whether it's stock or after-mkt, the sound of the gear-driven cams, the feel, handling, less weight, etc. I would never say my bike is better. It's a terrific bike for me, but I'm sure the 5th gen. would be, too. I just happen to love what I have and in the end that's all that's important.

As for VTEC, it's simply not for everyone. I like it, quite a lot actually. Mostly I love getting into VTEC mode and hearing the exhaust note double and feeling the whole bike come alive. I don't ride in VTEC a lot but it's fun when I do. If the bike was that lively at all times sure it would be more exciting, but I commute on my bike, run errands, run the freeways to get across town or to the west side of Cleveland (I live east of Akron), so I don't need my bike to be that lively all the time. The other valves VTEC engages are there when I need them. When under VTEC range I'm saving a little fuel, reducing noise levels and polluting the environment a little less, too.

And as for exhausts, I've never been a fan of loud pipes. I like the sound my of stock cans just fine. I might change them someday, but I'm really more of a stock bike kinda guy. Same w/my cars BTW. I don't feel any need to change my 6th gen's cans just like I don't feel any need to change the gearing, windshield, footpegs or handlebars. What I have works great for me! That's not to say I won't switch the cans someday, add a PCIII, install a K&N air filter, powdercoat the rims, install Pazzo levers, etc. I don't have the bread for all that now and have no interest in doing those things at this time anyway. My bike sounds fine to me and as far as I'm concerned, riding isn't about how my bike sounds anyway.

In fact, riding isn't even about the bike, tho I love what I ride and lust after a few other bikes, too. IMHO riding is about riding. It's not what you ride, it's that you ride at all. I'll be the first to admit I hate stereotypical grungy Harley riders w/loud pipes, no gear and no skills, but at least they're riding. That's why I wave to everyone and (usually) abstain from cruiser-bashing posts!

BTW, if as many people here (and elsewhere) lusting after the Duc 1098 actually buy them, Ducati is going to set sales records in N. America in 2007. I don't think they'll be able to make enough of them to fill the orders! I can't even believe there are that many people around who can afford $15k-$20k for a motorcycle. It will be interesting to see if that many people really buy them. Terrific bike, but not the ideal one for me and I couldn't afford one anyway.

As for comparing bikes to women:

1. Playmate/Supermodel = Ducati. Same qualities to each-
Playmate/Supermodel: Beautiful to look at, proud to have on your arm or to be seen with, perhaps a very fun date, terrific in bed, but is high maintenance and hard/expensive to keep happy, always leery of others looking to steal your girl.
Ducati: Beautiful to look at, proud to be seen on, very fun to ride, expensive to purchase, can require frequent and expensive maintenance and parts, always worried someone will steal your sweet bike.

2. Plain-looking but perfect woman = Honda. Same qualities to each-
Perfect woman: Not the prettiest creature but always there for you, dependable, loyal, faithful, likes the things you do and likes to hang out with you, great to talk to about anything, great in bed but not a pornstar, makes managing your relationship with her easy, is not high maintenance/does not require expensive gifts in order to prove you still love her, likes your friends, is happy to allow you to go out for a night with the boys/poker night/golf league or whatever.
Honda: Not leading edge technology but put together in an attractive package that is as good as most bikes out there, dependable/reliable, terrific network of dealers if you have a problem, rides up to and beyond your levels of expectation if you've bought the right bike for what you want to do, easy to work on and maintain, doesn't require expensive mods to perform well - though it's an option, great for group rides because it's exotic and fast enough for you but not so exotic people think you're a rich snob, isn't jealous when you look at, test ride or even buy another bike.

Whew! That was long. Hope you guys and gals 'got' what I was trying to say. Sorry if anyone is offended but if so, too bad! I know I wrote a book here, but it's all relevant to the thread.

Good stuff - I'm glad you picked up on my comparison - I'm all for "perfect" women and bikes, even if they look a little plain!!! I certainly did NOT mean to make this in to a "gen brawl" and I'm glad it didn't turn out that way. Also good to know the Staintunes will perk up the exhaust note for when I eventually pick up the red, white, and blue 07 6th gen sometime in the future. I'm not a fan of loud, ear-pounding exhaust, but totally quiet doesn't do it for me, either. Did I forget to mention I still enjoyed the ride on the 6th gen?? :) Its without a doubt about the ride. I'd rather be riding than doing just about anything else. Thanks for the comments, guys - vfrd is without a doubt still the best forum on the net! Plus, I always interpret any statement such as "my bike is better" as "my bike is better (for me)."
Chevy small block is a perfect description of my 97 with a Two Bros exhaust. Perfect....
PS: I wave to everybody, too!
PPS: I wouldn't buy the 1098, I'd get the 1098S at 20k. It would actually be a deal to have all that stuff installed from stock, and then I would waste less time "fixing" the bike and more time riding. Ducati is working big-time on decreasing maintenance costs and improving reliability, or at least so their website says. If it holds true, I may own one soon enough!
Tim, I'll probably be in your neighborhood tomorrow morning, but not for long. I would have sent you a PM, but had a real itch to do the test ride. We'll have to get together sometime, and I'll try to bring my other VFR bud with me if he will quit being such a wuss and ride in the cold.

For me, it all came down to ABS. I wasn't even in the market at the time for a new bike. My Bike at the time was just fine, but after a couple of weeks on a 98, I was sold. I like the ABS and if I could have found a new 5th gen left over, I may have bought that one.

I initally bought my 6th gen as my commuter bike, but after a few months on it, I liked it so much that I sold my other bike and for the first time in years, only had one bike. Now I'm picking up a mint condition 99 to share garage space, so I guess I will have the best of both worlds. Like most single guys and gals, I could pretty much buy any bike that is out there, but the VFR is really the only bike that really moves me. I have had my VFR longer than I have had any bike in almost 20 years of riding, 15 of those being w/out a car, so for me that says a lot about the VFR.

I saw the 1098 in person and I was not moved by it. I really wish that I was, but I wasn't. Then again, I haven't ridden one and that could change everything. We shall see what the future holds, but for now I'm all VFR all the time (AVFRATT biggrin.gif )

I've not ridden a VFR newer than my 93, but I absolutely love this bike. It's fast enough to do what I want to do on the street and makes for a very fun commuter. The growl that this bike puts out is outstanding, and I have a stock exhaust, so that must say something. The 6th gen is a very nice bike all the way around (especially the undertail exhaust mount & RWB paint!), but there is something about the older VFRs...I just think they look better in many aspects. (I tend to favor older bike styles, such as the ever so lovely Duc 851)

well stated post except for this one possible point. my Ducati St4s's insurance was only 300 dollars a year full coverage. The VFR was 749 the first year. my aprilia is cheaper than the VFR was. i asked why the Ducati was so much lower and they said the theft rate is very low on Ducatis. On bikes where there are several thousand made per year there is more of a parts market and subsequent higher theft compared to a few hundred imported italian bikes. i dont know if that still stands true, but i see 500 suzuki/yamaha/honda/kawasaki's for every Ducati i see

Pros, cons, yes, no,......on and on. The fact is you almost can't go wrong with any year VFR. I like mine, and You like yours. I like yours, tongue.gif , but I could only afford mine. LOL.

My Brother in Austin has an '01. I ride an '02.

I have put significant miles on both.

I would take either. You can't go wrong either way.
#25
I ride a 01 and a friend rides a 02, so I have logged many miles on both. My wife says they don't look like "real" motorcycles. Where's the chrome, she says? You can take her opinion for what it's worth. At any rate, I'm biased for the 5th gen, naturally, but I think I can offer a few opinions on both. The 6th gen is probably a better ride in every category with the possible exception of the engine. However, even the engine runs smoother on the 6th gen, but what about reliability with the CDC compared to the GDC? Honda originally went with the GDC because of reliability issues with the early CDC V4s. Ride quality, handling, more modern look, etc. go to the 6th gen, but only slightly. The 5th gen seems a little rough around the edges, like it takes a little more effort to ride it as fast as the 6th gen. Styling is subjective, but the 5th gen looks dated compared with the 6th gen.

All that being said, one would think I would pick the 6th gen hands down. However, keep in mind, I'm talking only slight differences in the two. The last and most important character trait I take issue with is just that: Character. The 6th gen VFR is practically robotic in action. All the check boxes can be checked; good engine, good handling, good styling, good brakes, etc. But where is the soul? Where is the character? The 5th gen can check all the boxes, plus it checks the important "character" box. I know, I'm biased, but the funny thing is my friend with the 6th gen says the same thing. He wants to trade body-work. He wants the looks of the 6th gen and the "soul" of the 5th gen.

So, I would pick the 5th gen VFR. But if I was looking to buy a new motorcycle today, it would be a 6th gen VFR over anything else out there. It just does everything right.

This kind of reasoning has always bewildered me. what makes the 5th gen have more soul? a noisy engine? so many complained about the Vtec hit. is that not soul? better instrumentation, better handling ect.... i find it more of the same "love what you own" mentality. Pretty soon we will be hearing how Mr. 5th Gen is the greatest street bike ever! biggrin.gif

Bewildered? Think we're just posting our opinions here. I like red and perhaps you like blue. Nothing to understand about that... Just opinions. Not sure I can give you a more detailed description, but if you want black and white, perhaps I do like the noisy engine in the 5th gen over the quiet engine in the 6th gen. But I think it is more than that. How about this one: Compare a Nighthawk 750 to a Yamaha V-Max. I can only compare bikes I have ridden, so please work with me here. I would say the V-Max is over flowing with character and the Nighthawk is the very definition of plain and yes, lacking character. At any rate, I still say I would pick either a 5th gen or a 6th gen over anything else on the road.

VFR79, Dec 18 2006, 03:15 AMI've not ridden a VFR newer than my 93, but I absolutely love this bike.

About the 851, don't even consider owning one unless you have lots of patience, money and a nice big van or bike trailer. IT WILL BREAK DOWN ON YOU. This is from a co-worker that owns one and admitted that he does not have the conscience to sell it to me because the thing is so fragile. He does not even trust it to go 50 miles without any problems. Too bad, cause it's such a beautiful classic bike specially the tri-colore edition. And the sounds it makes cannot be matched by any bike I have heard. fing02.gif

My pick is the 5th gen..It looks meaner and to me it sounds better than the 6th gen and aftermarket exhausts for the 6th gen are too expensive...The slip on can for my bike is $270 new...I also like the red color of my 99 VFR... I have put over 10,000 miles this year alone on the VFR and have not had a single problem.

I myself just dont like the looks of the 6th gen , to me its ugly as it looks more like a touring bike than a sport bike...All the new dacuti 1098 nedds is teeth painted on the faring and some glowing eyes to be a real demon bike as its going to eat the competition ...The high cost of valve adjustments and the intervals between them on a ducati keeps me away...

Hey at 21,000 miles all my valves were still in spec , at least that is what the mechanic at the dealer said and the cost was $117 to my surprise.. Yes we all ride for different reasons and that will determine wich bike we choose....

My apologies to those of you who own 6th gens - they are highly refined, easy to ride day and night, and a lot of fun. And if it puts a big smile on your face, then I implore you to keep riding it. But I certainly wouldn't want one

Actually I don't care for your tone or method used either! You pissed me off right from the start! IMO you insult both women and 6th gens owners in one line just to open your post with! pissed.gif

Too many posters who compare VFR's to VFR's can't seem to do it w/o trashing the other, if you can't do it w/o trashing the one you don't care for then DON'T post it.
Why on earth can't you people just do a post of "Why I love my _gen and don't need to change" instead of talking down a gen you don't like and many times their statements of ignorance, not real experience!
Secondly, it sounds like your talking out your butt when describing the 6th gen with comments like "The VTEC isn't a deal breaker, but I'd rather be able to use the whole engine throughout the rev range instead of just part of it.
Did I mention the 6th gen doesn't sound good?"
I'm guessing you have no skill or experience to make this type of ignorant statement! pissed.gif I have over 80,000 miles on VFR's in the last half dozen years with close to 45k miles on my Vtec and from my experience your statements have No validity at all! I lung mine as low as 3k in 6th gear and it pulls without issue and as good as any other of the 20 so odd VFR's I've ridden or owned(7).
Another break through ! Of course a Piped bike of any type sounds better than any stock bike mellow.gif ! Gee, I love to here the awesome sound of a V-4, if only I had a 4th gen!
If statements like "But I certainly wouldn't want one " aren't a slap in the face to 6th gens owners, it is to this one!!!

This could just have been a great post about " My 4th gen makes me so happy I don't need a different/newer bike", but no you have to target another Gen VFR to make your points and poorly I might add.
This is VFRD a site about VFR's, not 4th gen, not 5th gens, not 6th gens, etc.! It's about ALL VFR's and any negative comment about any Gen will automatically insult a percentage of members here and should be avoided just for that reason alone!

Hell... all the drama's wearin' on me here! I was just gonna say that if I had any more room for more bikes, other-gen VFRs would be very high on the wishlist!

I have a soft spot for aged bikes... I generally like my bikes with their own individual personality... various bumps and bruises, odd quirks here or there. This-bike-likes-the-choke-pulled-a-certain-way, that-bike-likes-the-throttle-blipped-while-starting, this-one-has-shaft-lash-in-certain-situations... all that. Take the good with the bad and love it for what it is. Each bike has its own 'default' traits plus whatever further character it picked up along the way. Gear whine, VTEC surge, carb lean spots, all part of the experience.

I picked up a basically-new 6th gen because I was going through a brief bout of bike-personality overdose, and I wanted to start with something new and learn (and set) all the quirks myself. Something more reliable than my chopper and not as rare as my Magna. Hooligan capability, V4 power delivery, and a sporty edge. Every generation of VFR delivers those, but a new bike is hard to compete with reliability-wise. Thus a 6th gen, but I'd have no argument with having another VFR! Anybody wanna donate one to me? I'd REALLY love a 500! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

As have added my support and liking of the Gen 6 VFR on many occasions including in this thread not sure why you'd be so emotionally aggrieved by any thread posted in the " 3rd & 4th Gen " category ?

If it had been in the 6th Gen area then maybe, but its only a persons opinion of one model of bike over another in the area it should be, a spirited defence of your Gen 6 over the Gen 4 could be much more fun, ie at least the Gen 6 has great car like headlights not like those hopeless candle like things the Gen 4 has etc.

Like I've always said, I love all VFR's period and would and have owned many. (1- 3rd, 3- 5th, 3- 6th gens) I have never had the pleasure of owning either the 1st(did have a 83 VF750), 2nd or 4th gen, but don't need to trash talk or say crap like I would never own a (whatever)? VFR, especially here!
As far as where's it's posted it matters not! I see a Poll "would you own a 6th gen or would you own any earlier gen" on the home page and I'm reading it. If I looking for specific info I'll look to a category.
I frown upon any VFR bashing no matter what the Gen and I will defend the model always. It just seems that for what ever reason the 6th Gen is a constant target and 9 of 10 times it's from someone will little or no experience on one or has maybe read something in a Mag and their willing to trash it completely. It's happened way too many times here and I'm very tired of it. pissed.gif
Maybe it's because many people fear change and are afraid of it! tongue.gif Bash a VFR any VFR here on VFRD and I'll be on you butt if I see it.
There are many uneducated and dumb opinions out there and some are even mine, but VFRD is not the place to trash talk any VFR!
Any us/vs them type of post that leads to negative comments when talking about VFR's is not a positive thing IMO. No problem comparing models if it's done in a positive note, not that one Sucks etc. It can be done and I would be much happier if the attempts were made. fing02.gif
Trash talking anything or anyone isn't good in general even if it's talking about something or someone outside VFRD, it has come back to hurt VFRD on several occasions and some of the Hacking could even be from this type of thing.

Rant still on! rolleyes.gif

By the way, I'm not trying to rally the 6th gen troops here and I don't want any offended members to do the reverse trash talk. I'm trying to point out the these type of post can and should be done in a better way without one-up-man-ship or at the cost of another Gen's rep!

Yes, you've got a point mate. I thought I would generate a few laughs with my comment about going to the dealer to kick over a 4th gen. Truth is, there is a guy at work that is selling an old VF400 I believe and I would be interested if I could swing it. Looks like it would be a fun bike to cruise around the reservoir with and for commuting. I'll see what kind of deal he's willing to make.

What's interesting is, if I remember right, this forum was started mostly by people who got sick of the cross-generation bashing (mostly on 6th gen at that time) that was happening on the big Texas VFR Garage Forum. It got so bad there that you couldn't even mention other things like "EnutniatS" without getting pounced on by what I feel were resident "trolls" who throughly enjoy pushing everyone's buttons.
there is some kidding around on humorous, good natured pokes on "NACA Cheese Grater ducts", "Klingon Style Fairings" and the VTEC engineering/performance opinions between members, but at least. they never have escalated to the same juvenile wars that happened constantly on the "Big List".

I didn't get the sense that sesand was cross-gen. bashing. It was mostly his opinions. I can understand why certain people don't like the 6th gen. VFR, but I think all gen's are terrific. Wish I could own one of each! (Santa, are you listening?) I love my 6th gen, but I've never had the privelege of riding any earlier VFRs - and I bet I'd love them too! In fact, I have a line on an '80s VFR a local guy is selling and I'm hoping to at least check it out and maybe buy it next month. (So much for having room in the garage for my car!)

I don't think my earlier post bashed any VFR. I can't even bring myself to bash HDs or other cruisers. I poke fun at HDs and their riders sometimes, but I'd actually love to own a FatBoy or V-Rod someday. And you'll never hear me bash any other VFR.

If I thought someone was bashing 6th or any other gen. of these great bikes I'd call them on it and defend the whole line. But like I said, I didn't think sesand was 'bashing'. Just stirring up the pot a bit. At least it was a little refreshing to see a 3rd or 4th gen. owner bring this stuff up. Seems like it's mostly 5th vs. 6th gen. owners when it comes to this kinda thing!
