This just started happening recently, the clock and tripmeter resets itself while riding down the road. It would happen more than 10 times in a short 50-60 mile ride, though I try not to stare at it while riding down teh road, but I actually caught it while riding. LCD display blanks out and clock/tripmeter resets itself, fuel guage displays full and temperature guage goes to "--" then back to running temp. Any ideas??
My bike is a 2000 VFR800 with little over 10,000 miles on the bike, Reg/Rec is still stock. Battery is less than 8 months old, holds charge no problem.. I havn't checked the charging rate when the bike is running, but I never had a problem with it. This past weekend, I rode over 300 miles in 3 days, with my electric jacket liner on 1/3 of the time while the bike was running, the battery was still in good shape and holds charge after sitting for 2 days after all the riding. I guess I will check the charge rate with the bike running now.
Charging system is the most likely and most easily tested suspect, so if you eliminate that, look into a wiring problem/loose connection, but my money is on charging system.
Voltmeter give readings of 13.5-14.1 volt when engine is at idle (11-1200 rpm), between 4-6000 rpm reads 13.8-14.4 volt. One incident of clock/tripmeter reset while idle and the voltmeter still connected to the battery, the reading drops down to 1.4 volt and returns to normal 13.5 volt. I guess the regulator/rectifier is fazing in and out.
So what's next? replacement reg/rec? where to get one, which one is the best for a 2000 VFR800? OEM or aftermarcket?

Sounds more like a wiring problem... even if your R/R dropped out for a minute, you would still have 12+ volts from the battery and wouldn't notice it or have any ill effects. Check your main ground connection under the tank pivot.
My clock and odometer was resetting to zero also. Thought it was the R/R so carried out all the checks in the "How to Guide" and everything checked out fine. Decided to get a new battery before shelling out for a new R/R and since I did, everything is perfect. My battery was reading 12v+ and at 5500k revs was 14.4v but it was pausing during the ignition causing the clock to reset. It couldn't handle a load.
Good luck
