Just got a Corbin seat and washed my bike. Took some pics, thought I would share. Some of you might remeber this is the bike I bought for $200 and fixed up.....
Since I've started riding it on Aug 13th, after over a year restoring it, I've put 10,000 miles on it. Ever since I upgraded the suspension, this bike has been a love affair. I've owned well over a dozen bikes, and this is by far the best all round streetbike I've owned. It handles all the brutal commuting and work errands I run on it during the week, then it handles an even harder flogging while a make her keep up (sucessfully I might add) with the R1's and Gixxer 1k's that usually with me on my weekend rides in the twisties.
Lovely. I'd go for a highrise oval pipe and Y2K mirrors, lose the stickers and leave it at that (yeah right, I'd put USD forks on that baby!). The amber lenses would also look good.
3rd Gen is a great looking bike that is ageing very well - hard to believe they are a 16 year old design
Yowzer! $200 bones. What kinda shape was it in? Curious to know what the re-build set you back. 3rd gen = the best! It's like driving a classic car ... only better! biggrin.gif Nice going. fing02.gif

I didn't keep track, but at this point in the game I'm out about $3k. Half of which was the suspension and the seat. I had the bike up and running for much less.

I have been trying to talk myself into getting a Penske or Works shock for over a year... I guess you would say its worth it!
The windshield is by Maier. The fit is not the greatest, but it was cheap and it works. As for the shock, the yes it was most definitely worth it. I would go for the Penske, as it is a more advanced damper. Nothign against Works, but the Penske is just another level, and the price is pretty much the same.

I actually like the all red look in the back, since the bike is red. The turn signals also act as brake lights, a feature I very much like, and I would have to disable them if I went to the amber lenses.

Nah, I'm going to keep the stock exhaust. I don't need the hassle from the cops, and the noise gets old if you ride everyday. I also leave around 6AM every morning, and I have respect for my neighbors.
As for USD forks, well, aesthetics aside, I don't really see the point. The standard forks are really quite good when they are properly sorted, and more than enough for a streetbike. At least that's the case for me.

Up front I have Race Tech compression AND rebound gold valves, along with their springs. I also replaced the stock ball steering head bearings to tapered needle bearings from All Balls. Brakes are stock hardware with EBC HH pads, braided lines, and ATE Super Blue brake fluid.

Lowside damage on both sides, charging issues (the infamous faultly RR), bad starter clutch, various wear and tear/maintainence items needing replacement (tires, battery, filters, plugs, chain, sprockets, brake pads, etc.).
The bike is looking absolutely fantastic, good job with it! The only thing it really needs is WHITE wheels but then again, my point of view might be skewed a little.....

Agreed. We should have another So Cal ride after the holidays. We did a couple of those FLAF rides over the past couple of months, and they were fun.
I'm thinking about having a tech day/ barbeque or something maybe in January if anyone needs to do anything to their bike. (Unfortunately, I've just completed all of the maintanence on mine, but I'm sure there might be someone else who needs help with something. Would anybody be up for that?

The bike looked kinda plain after it was painted and I didn't want to order the facotry decals, so I just stuck on some stickers that came with the upgrades I bought, as well as stickers advertising the website of the local riding forum where all my riding buddies are.

I am not saying that I don't like the stickers, just that everyone will have their personal opinion on them. That is the only generation of VF/VFR that I have not had the pleasure of owning. Thinking about looking for one for my son since I can't find a beater VF-500F to rebuild with him.

The pic was taken right after I put on a brand new rear tire. The front already had about 1000 miles on it, but there are no chicken strips so it looks unused from a distance.

Oh man, I had VF-500F back in high school! I put Hurricane forks, front brakes and a 17" front wheel on that thing and would ditch school between nutrition and lunch and go to the canyons in Malibu with flattened coke cans duct tapped to my jeans for knee sliders.
Great fun until I threw it off Old Topanga Canyon road and would have went off the cliff if a bush didn't catch me, breaking my left wrist and ripping off a great deal of flesh just below my right knee in the process. Live and learn indeed.

Welcome to the forum. If you want new plastic, there is a member here named JoeW contact him for good pricing on the factory parts, or you can get aftermarket pieces from Airtech(fiberglas).

Where did you find your 93 at?
Got it locally from a buddy. It was laid down and plastic was removed to repair it...guy lost the plastic and parts. I need everything but mechanically the bike is super.

The forks have been completly rebuilt, as well as resprung with Race Tech springs, and Race tech compression and rebound Gold valves. In the rear I fitted a Penske shock.

Is that "italian red" paint?
The windscreen is for the bike, it just doesn't fit great. It is made by Maier, and they still make them.
The paint is Italian Red, color code R157.
