hey all, i was doing some work on the bike after it almost over heated, still not sure why that happend, fairly new coolant, toped up and fan working, or so i thought. when i got on my hands and knees and let the bike warm up till the fan started. i then noticed the fan actually suckes air through the fairing, through the radiator and across to the other radiator. now how can that work, if i am traveling down the road at 100k/h and the air is being forced the oppsiite way, from inside the fairing through the radiator and then out the side, has the guy before me swaped the wires or put the fan backwards in by mistake or am i missing sompthing.
i'm sure that the air would travel through the radiator from the inside out, as there would be high pressure inside the fairing in front of the engine and low pressure on the outside due to the moving air. and the fan is definatly sucking air from the outside of the fairing in, any ideas

I have hit 240 sitting in traffic before. Its not common it gets that hot, usually in traffic i'm in low 230's before the fan gets to going well, but it has gotten up there. The mistake most people do is shutting there bike off because its getting hot. Well pump isn't flowing when the engine is off, so the onlything being cooled is whats in the radiator, the cooled coolant isn't flowing through the engine itself, which is what does the cooling. Understandable the bike is producing more friction and heat when running, but as long as its running, the coolant is flowing. I've seen a lot of people pull in there garage and shut the bike off with the fan still running. Not good. Let the bike keep running until the fan gets the bike cool enough for the fan it shut off. What kind of temps are you considering overheating?

:) Don't shut the bike off if hot. If the bike is running coolant is flowing and cooling the parts of the engine that are really hot (much higher than coolant temp), and the fan is cooling the coolant. If you shut it off, the hot parts can only dissipate heat into the nearby coolant.
hate to say it and get the wobbles every time i think but it got up to 128C which is about 260F, i do actually know what the problem is, the top of the resivior cap had come off and the water must have boiled, was in a spot on a main highway where there was absoultly no where to pull over and was in a bad traffic jam fixed the prblem the next day and completly drained what was left of the coolant and re filled with new coolant. bike actually seems ok but still worried about long term effects. i havnt noticed a power decrease or any un normal noise. not quite sure how the to of the resicior cap came off, the fact that it was about 32C (95F) didnt help the situation much
