I have a friend thet has a -91 vfr swing on a other bike. He has a problem. The chain adjustment dont hold. The problem has been trackd down to that the excenter adjstment slips. Any one has had this problem on a vfr? And if how has it been sorted. This swing has only one clamp bolt.
HMM? is the bolt striped? It helps to have the ecentric rotated downward at the 6 oclock position rather than up, up wil have it loosening as you ride - I believe, Busy Little Shop (a member here) explained the physics of it in a post somewhere if you want to search for it.

its torqued to spec, chain loosen only when accelate hard.

bolt is fine, have to ask is its upwards or down rotated....the swing is on back of a -81 z1000 kawi whit heavy modded engine...
Is the chain worn out? Once a chain wears out, in the end of its life, it will stretch really fast.
Is he marking the hub to make sure that it rotates?

Its the hub that rotate, chain is ok, and he first belived the chain streched so he change the chane to the best you can but and it still loosed, then he did mark the hub, and yes it rotate. But only when he uses all power, when crusing it dont. Make wonder how much power the hub can handel. Isnt it thet later vfr;s have 3 clamp bolt rear hub? this hub has only one.
All vfrs have one single clamp bolt on the hub.
Perhaps he needs to remove the bearing holder and clean it up, perhaps scuff it a bit to get the clamp to hold it better. And of course rotate the hub so that it is rotated to the 6 oclock positon. As the chain pulls on the sprocket it pulls the hub upward moving to a tighter postion rather than loosening, if the hub were at the 12 oclock positon it would loosen.

Yes because when the chain pulls the wheel forward, it is easy for the excentric to be pushed in if it is at the top. The action brings the eccentric toward to narrower part. While at the buttom, the movement forward pushes the eccentric toward to thicker side of the eccentric making it impossible to loosen.

HRC swingarm has two bolts but is pricey. Clean up the hub and put some new grease in the bearing.
Talked to the friend yesterday, and he has it adjusted to 12 a clock, so thats proberly the problem then. He put it that way to get the rear lower.
