Hey guys, my speedo has been a bit erratic lately and when i jumped on the bike it had finally dies, no matter what speed no reading. I know the speed sensor runs off the fron sprocket, and i have just put a new sprockets and chain on it, a dealer did it cause i don't own the chain tool (but with what he charged i could of bought it). does any one know what the problem could be.
To be honest i haven't even taken anything off to have a look, been busy figured that some one may be able to narrow it down for me.
is the speedo cable driven or electrically driven?

I am not for sure , but you can download the manual off this site and check and see..I will look in my service manual...the speed sensor connector is white and behind the coolant tank,follow it to the speed sensor which is held in with 2 bolts , if it was not properly aligned then that may be a reason for it not working or a bad connection at the white connector. its not cable driven. section 19-12 in the service manual..
Had same problem some time ago and it's back again so I hope to fix it the same way. I took off the speed sensor which is held in place by two bolts just over the front chain sprocket nut. The white nylon socket of the sensor fits over the sprocket bolt, which in turn revolves when riding. Sometimes this nylon sprocket breaks. If its ok then about 6 inchs up from the sensor is a junction/connection point. I cleaned this and made sure there was a good connection and then ran speed sensor using my screw gun before refitting and the speedo worked fine. fitted it back and it was fine for 8 months till last week. I'll do the same again and fingers crossed it'll be the same fix

99% of the time it's the nylon drive socket ($5.00 Honda part) cracking or stripping, but on my bike it just seemed to pull away from the the driven part of the sensor(the c/s bolt drives it) but looking it over it was easy to figure out what was happening and I just added a O-ring to the base of the nylon gear to hold it closer to the driven sender. Haven't had another issue in 10k and still carry the New nylon gear in my tail bag in case it ever breaks. fing02.gif

Yeah, I could've said I'd ridden a 40,000 mile viffer if it wasn't for that... I had to settle for 39,9xx instead... tongue.gif

For the heck of it, perhaps you take pics, date and time stamped, when you take it apart. (To give a bit of leverage, should you ever need it.) "I may not do it myself, but I know what you guys are screwing-up".
got is sorted. ended up being the nylon nut. it just needed to be pushed further out so it made proper contact with the sprocket nut. easy fix. i recently got my sprockets and chains replaced and they may have knocked the nylon nut in a bit.
