Wing Rack With High Pipe

Ive found postings asking if the Givi wing rack will work with a high pipe, but no answer. I just mounted a Givi wring rack on my 96 which has a Micron high pipe. The tail end of the can touched the wing rack. I mounted a computer CPU heat sink between the can, which has a rubber trim piece that contacts the smooth back side of the heat sink, and the wing rack. The wing rack had a hole right where I needed to run the bolt through. Ive only ridden with it two days. No problems no vibration and no heat being transferred to the bags. I love not having to commute with the backpack.

Well, thats what my bike would look like with bags. Nice to see.

I have a MIG high mount on mine. Hopefully it will still fit too
if I get bags.

What top and side bags do you have?

I'm glad it still looks good! It may beat on the pipe a little, but if you leave the rack on, who cares?

I may have to replace my Corbin bags with Givis due to my shock res. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/pissed.gif) Good thing I don't have high-mount exhaust, or else there would be another problem!

What bags are you running? Have you had it out with them loaded up yet?

How does it affect the handling?

They are equivalent to an E360 side and an E52 top case. I got then used and there are no model identifications on them. I have not had a heavy load, just my going to work stuff. I felt I was moving around a bit on I270 when running 80 with the traffic. It was gusty that day so I didn't think it was anything unusual. Other then needing to bend my knee a lot more to get on or off I would not even know they are there. Oh yeah I do see the side cases in my mirrors.

I have a similar setup , except I don't use a top-box. Therefore, I have no requirement for the heeeooooge top section of the wing rack. Also, it's fugly.
regarding the clearance at the silencer - I just used longer bolts on that side and spacers (1/2") under the side plate to move it away from the can. Also requires a small bracket at the footrest - or space out the footrest by the same amount.

But what about stiffness I hear you cry ?

well you can always try a wee blue pill - or do as I have done and add a bar with a tapped hole each end which is bolted across the two rearmost holes on the side plates. This bar sits really neatly in the groove above the rear lamp and connects the two sides together allowing the horrid top bridge to be removed altogether.

The panniers are totally solid and secure with this set-up even with a heavy load on less than smooth Scottish Highland roads.

Yes, I know I have the standard silencer fitted in the pic..
