After I got my VFR I was disappointed to learn that there is a very limited market for aftermarket exhuast systems. This being my first sport bike I wanted to play with it. I ran across a Remus slip on, but I really want a Two Brothers.

I contemplated buying the midpipe from Remus and then have someone weld my choice of can to that midpipe. But, I'm taking the long way around. I bought a full stock system for a 94-97 from one of the members here. Once I get it (should be a couple of days) I'm gonna clean it (if needed) and give it a coat of high temp paint and install it. Should mount right up.

If that proves to be a success, I'll get a high mount pipe from Two Brothers made for the 94-97 VFRs. Then the SSSA will really stand out (and the white wheels). Plus I'll have that sound I love and the great weight reduction.

And maybe, just maybe, if everything turns out good, I'll post pics.

Wish me luck fing02.gif

Good luck!! Why not the Remus? The ones I've seen have been great!

Sounds great Andy. You'll need the six crush washers from Honda (another two if the 3rd Gen rear header need to be swapped for the 4th Gen rear headers) and if you have a centrestand you might need to leave it off? Definitely different centrestand designs between the two.

I had to get a split in the bottom of my collector welded up, so look for that.

Don't bother with the high-temp paint, it won't last. dry.gif

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt! pissed.gif

Get the headers sandblasted, caustic dipped and Jet-Hot coated. fing02.gif

I'm sure Remus is a great exhaust, but you go with what you're familiar with sometimes. Besides, I'm getting the TB at a very good price. I actually wouldn't mind having a Termignoni, but I like the fact that TB has the high mount option.

I've got all 6 exhaust gaskets on the way, I believe the rear headers are the same part #. Centerstand is no issue (that's why I've got a PitBull stand). Any idea what caused your collector to split???

Ok, the board member who sold them to me suggested the same thing. Now that I see what it looks like...
Is this something that you typically send out to have done? What kind of local shop would do sandblasting and jet-hot coating? And is this done purely for looks or is it supposed to make the metal not rust? You really don't see the exhaust execpt for the can and mid-pipe. Just don't want to put too much $$$ into the bike.

Yes, you have to send the headers out to be done. It is for looks AND performance plus corrosion resistance. Cost me about 200 Canadian to have mine done.

Here's the downlow on the performance benefits of the coating:

Tell me about it! I'll have to see if the wallet can get stretched that thin. Jet hotting seems like the way to go...better looks, better performance...better see if I can take out a loan. I want only the best for my VFR, and anywhere I can save $$$ puts me one step closer to buying a house with a garage (the ultimate farkle!)

So far, so good. The 4th gen exhaust mounts up nicely, plus it's a lot smaller...no huge collector box. I don't have my slip on yet, so it's not 100% finished. But wow, does it sound mean with no exhaust pipe! I rode it around a little and it sounds too good to put a pipe on. I'll try to post sound clips.
#12
Let's see that Orange County Special, straight pipes, no baffle.

At about 10K it will sound like the back stretch of Daytona.

In about 2 weeks you'll be

A. Deaf

B. Unable to understand "Please step over to the curb."

C. Broke.

D. Beggin for a stock can.

Find yourself a good muffler shop and get a mid pipe made. Get a good remus can. Lifetime guarantee as well as great looks and sound.

Seems a shame to not have a left side exit on those earlier generation bikes, if you can find one or have the pipe made up!

#14
You need a full header to have a left-exit, and those be made of unobtanium.

Andrew I think mine was split from having hit, or having been hit by, something - but I have no idea what it may have been.

+1 on the JetHot treatment, it would be worth your while to have it done if you can afford the downtime and outlay.
#15
I've never heard a Remus on a bike, and have ultimately decided to go 2Bros. For one, they have the high mount. Two, I get a good price on them. While it would be cool to have some custom exhaust work done, I just don't have the $$ for that. The left side exhaust looks great, wish Honda did that from the factory.

One interesting sound I did get to experience was the engine with no exhaust whatsoever. We fired it momentarily and the thing sounded like it was underwater. Quite comical.

Betarace,

Thanks. I was hoping to keep that quiet, as the TBR left side exhaust for the 90-97 come up once a year, maybe. It was posted yesterday and is already at $255. I'll never be able to get it now. pissed.gif

Oh well, if you didn't do it, someone else would have.

BTW, VFR79, Remus makes a right side high mount for the 94-97, so I KNOW the link pipe is available, as well as the can. FYI.

Sorry man, thought I was helping, but you gotta believe that everyone on this board scours ebay daily.

Honestly, I would go with the remus connector pipe and then put some sill TBR can on it like this one

for $200 you are done!

Well BG,

Its supposed to, its an RC30. They all came that way as did the RC45, I believe.

Unfortunately, I do not believe the RC30 pipes will fit any VFR, just made different.

Tharkun, true?

Click here to listen to my partially completed bike. It sounds better in person of course, but this lets you hear the unharnessed nature of these incredible V-4s.

I'll be going back to the shop this Monday to finish the project. All I really have to do is slip the mid-pipe and can on, shouldn't take too long. While I'm there I'm gonna try to remove the passenger pegs and clean up that back end. And yes, I'll be sure to have pics and probably another sound clip. I can't wait!!!

I know your neighbors won't want it sounding like that. pissed.gif But that does sound evil, wicked, mean and nasty. fing02.gif

Thanks guys, I love the way it sounds. I only wish I could leave it that way! It's loud indeed, and you're right, it sounds like V-8 muscle *Tim Allen grunt*

My exhaust project is finally finished! The can went on with minor modification to the rear cowl, you can't see it from the side, and you'd never know it was done. The 2 Bros sounds great and looks awesome in the high mount. It really accents that sexy SSSA with its white 8 spoke wheel. The only thing is that the exhaust sticks out a bit, kinda like a poor man's 12 o'clock bar unsure.gif

I never have passengers on the bike so I decided to get rid of the passenger pegs. Now, part of the passenger peg bracket is used to secure the rear cowl. I simply cut it and ground it down to make it invisible yet still usable. I did this on both sides. I no longer have a helmet lock (I carry my helmet with me anyway) and I had to re-route the seat release. Well, the seat release is just a cable now, and it tucks itself nicely under the bodywork.

All in all I am very pleased with the end result!

Sound Clip. I think it sounds better in person, but you get the idea goofy.gif

VFR79,

Looks great. All you need to finish off your bike are the original stickers. PM me if you want them, I have a complete set extra.

Oh, that's so nice!

I'm really envious!

I wanted so much to have mine look like that. But, I didn't want to lose the centerstand. I couldn't find anyone to work with me on welding the socket end from the OEM can to the high-mount downtube for the 2Bros C5 I have.

Without going the whole replacement Gen 4 header route as you did, I was pretty well stuck. And I would have lost the center stand, which I need now that I modified my suspension. So, I just ended up compromising on the low mount. I do take passengers, so I wanted to keep the pegs.

I really prefer the look of the 93 with no decals at all. The prior owner had removed them from my bike and I think it looks elegant.

Nice job. That's how the 1993 should look, IMHO.

Where did you get the seat cowl? More people have seen Bigfoot than a 1993 seat cowl.
#28
BG,

Take your pipe to any muffler shop and they SHOULD be able to weld it up. May not be pretty, but a grinder can fix that.

BTW, I belive VFRchuck (?) can fix you up on the 3rd gen cowl. Very reasonable also. Check EBay, he posts stuff ther all the time. Cobalt Racing?

Thanks, I'm really happy with the new look (and sound)! A big thanks goes out to vfrrider (aka Larry) for hooking me up with the 4th generation stock exhaust pieces. fing02.gif fing02.gif fing02.gif fing02.gif

The cowl came with it when I got it used, it survived 2 prior owners.
