I have had great help from this site in the past and return again for a new issue I have come across on my 2001 Red VFR. Here is the information I can give you.... normally I get about 200ish miles to a tank of gas +/- a few. My partner has a 2000 Suzuki TL1000R which is a gas drinker... he only gets about 80-100 miles to one of his tanks... I usually only fill up once for his 2. Anyway today we had a nice small group together and started out on a little ride. We filled up both bikes at the same time and went about 80 miles down to the beach and walked around for a bit. I told my partner he would need gas soon and said he knew however he would be able to make it a little further North before we stopped. Now at this point I noticed nothing out of the normal.. I was at about 1/2 tank so it all seemed well for me. We went about another 25 miles when I noticed it seemed the gas just dropped outta my bike! (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/sad.gif) Confused and concerned... we both filled up again and I reset the trip meter. We drove about 25-30 miles to get home and I have already used up 2 bars of fuel? This is a HUGE drop and I'm concerned something might be wrong. Has anyone else had this problem??? Sorry I should have put that information in as well....... I understand that bars are different than actual usage.. however it took the fuel to fill up the tank. its almost as if I'm getting only 1/2 the mpg as normal. since the weather got cold I've been yielding less fuel mileage also, the Fi's seem to eat more fuel when cold, typically 39 or 40mpg I'm getting. My second tank today and touring ride with rolling highway equaled 44 mpg.
Good point however I'm in the sunshine state... Temps today in the 80's... I'm from Kentucky and after moving here a few years ago I now find I can't handle the cold..... I normally only ride when the weather is in the 70 & up (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/smile.gif)

what part of florida you in? (just wondering) with my VFR in florida i never could get above 36 MPG....never ever.
to your issue. fill it up, and ride it for 40 miles or so and without worrying about fuel gauge, see how much it takes. if its a gallon or so ....you might have just had a fluke. if it takes 10 gallons.....you might be driving my truck by mistake. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/unsure.gif)
has there been any change in engine operating temperature? has the engine performace changed any? check the tire pressures? spin the wheels checking for brake drag? lots of possibilites................do any bike work lately?

For the heck of it, check your oil. If you can confirm that it is'nt a guage fluke, it has to be going somewhere. Check the plugs? I would think your eyes would be burning if it were running that rich.
You are going to have to do a mileage test. Reset trip meter. Fill it up ride for 50-100 miles. Fill the tank up and divide the miles by the gallons. That will be your mpg. Thats the only way to see if it was a fluke.
No engine work lately.... all seems to be normal... the weather hasn't been the best the last few days so that I can take her out for a spin to do the MPG test. I'll be back with an update as soon as I do though.. you guys are awesome!
