I recently bought a low mile 99 VFR, my second Interceptor since my 84 vf500 way back when. Anyhow, I decided to change the oil this weekend and everything progressed smoothly until I got to the last fairing bolt. The problem is with the allen head bolt closest to the tank. It is the one that you put through the dash, fairing, into a threaded rubber gromet in the coil bracket. The coil bracket has a little flex to it and does not line up exactly. I have spent an eternity trying to get the bolt started w/no success. I have to be doing something wrong. I can get the bolt started into the gromet by itself but not when going through the dash/fairing holes. My next move will be to buy a couple new threaded gromets since the 2 on the coil brackets have seen better days and if that does not work I'll just get a nut to fit the bolt. Any suggestion would be appreciated. I think I taught the neighbor kids some new words today.

Try loosening up the other bolts to give the side panel some wiggle room to get it in place. If it works, then tighten them all up. Sometimes, you just have to mess with the plastic crap to make it line up.

You might also try applying a LIGHT amount of anti-sieze to the bolt threads. I've found that it makes them much easier to insert and to remove.
