So I am in the middle of the Beast's multiple mods and with the big bore kit I was thinking. What about nitrous? Now I know in big block motors you limited use before a rebuild is needed. But I see more and more bikes with NOS. So i guess I am asking if anyone here has it or knows someone that has it and is it a good idea or not. Thanks Snakeman

I'm pretty sure you will be the first one on here that would have a VFR with NOS. I've never heard it mentioned on here.

Sorry...Fast and Furious pet peeve here...but it's Nitrous Oxide...NOS is a manufacturer...not the spray that go boom in your bike. fing02.gif You should ask some local tuner shops for more advice. Since you are going big bore that means lower compression as well which is good for what you are thinking. Keep your shots to lower numbers and you can probably get away with it without too much damage over time. Just make sure you have strong internals (IE pistons, rods) to back up all that boost. Heck...your biggest problem may be your chain and transmission bits. VFR's are not light bikes. Still, it would be something to see. smile.gif
You should be able to get by with a 40 shot. Be sure to have a video camera rolling when you try it the first time. Might even say, "Hey ya'll watch this!" comp13.gif
Cambelloni, Feb 5 2007, 05:12 PMI've seen pro-street cars blow up from over juicing the system and it isn't pretty. Now put that exploding engine between your legs... not for me.
Well maybe I will do it. It would sure be one h&ll of a surprize to some of the young kids on their " true street bikes" not just a touring bike as I was so rudly told one day last summer. We'll see if I do i will be taking pics. Snakeman
This KID that worked a very short time for me. Was telling me about his Civic. He wanted to do soem mods to it, add wheels, a "system" and a long list which included NOS. So I asked him how sure he was about putting NOS in a daily driver, with the extra stress on a car that gets you to work. Then he asked me a most Telling question. " Whats NOS?" He wants it but had know clue as to what it is or how it works.
I told him to make sure that his exhaust isn't bigger in diameter than his wheels.
I think you should leave NOS at the drag strip. Be fast cause you have skills, not an easy button.
You dont need Nitrous on a VFR, there not drag bikes, and in stock trim with the right rider, you can spank R1's in the twisties. But to each his own I say, so go for it. Like the other guys have said, just make sure you video it, becuase I would like to see it just to say that I have seen it.
My SWAG on the issue. Tune it to be about a 20-30hp shot and always make sure you have the throttle wide open when you hit the button and you should be fine.

My buddy drag races bandit 12s and 1100xxs and has one 6th gen engine apart(bought from a junkyard for one of his IDEAS!) anyway he thinks the Int can handle 40horse shot- I have often thought about pulling the trigger-He says that the Int has a well designed bulletproof motor-The setup he recommends is the airbox nozzle set up. go to mpsracing.com it is the dry setup for FI bikes
Ok Tommy & Matt, First off I am a 36 year old well experianced rider. I started riding dirt bikes when I was 6. For the longest time all I did was ride every chance I had. When I was 16 I got a 1984 Interceptor 1000 and in 88 a hurricane 1000. My reasons for Nitrous is NOT to be the FASTEST but to say I have it on a 1999VFR and To surprize my buddies when they are getting cocky. As well as some of the newbies on their R1s, Cbr1000s, Gixxers etc. All of us that own these amazing bikes now that they are in many ways the best you can get. But I am looking at making mine just a little different for the fun and the sence of its mine and its oringinal. Snakeman

I was thinking the same thing. Nice video find, Kr0nus! Was that a hand that got blown off? (Keep in mind that was a Suzuki with a 1,000 mile engine)
Snakeman, Member DaveM drag races bikes. I'm sure he can give you a few tips on the tuning. I wouldn't do NO2, but it's cool you're thinking about giving it a shot. (Pun intended)

I think it is a cylinder being release from duty goofy.gif
Many, many years ago in a land far, far away...........well anyway, a friend and I had a Triumph drag bike when they first came out with the nitrous systems. I know the hardware is easier to use and better now, but for what it's worth.......we holed a lot of pistons, and broke ring lands(not counting 2 "complete" scatters) before we "got-it-right. Salesman at the Honda shop here scattered 2 Chevy V-8s last year playing with it in his S-10 drag truck............................... dry.gif
Rant on: 1) Never call it "nos" or "nozz". Those Hollywood terms make me wanna barf. 2) Do your homework. Learn about N20 before you spend any time or money. 3) Learn the difference between a wet system and dry system. 4) Let's assume you start with a dry system. The first thing you have to do after you install the kit is change heat range on your plugs, generally one or two steps colder. Then, you need to find a way to retard ignition timing while the nitrous is in use, or detonation will occur. Then, you need to find the right amount of nitrous to inject without leaning the F/A mixture to far, 14.7 is about as far as I would go. Our ancient ECU's work from a table guided by sensors; they match sensor input to a specific table written to the signals the sensors are sending. There is no sensor for Lamda, or Fuel to Air Ratio - that is set ahead of time in the fuel maps. Quite the challenge. 5) If you started with a wet system, things get a lot safer. A wet system injects both fuel and nitrous. You would need a seperate fuel pump and regulator; not a big deal. Inline pumps are cheap & reliable. Still, change the plugs.
I have considered a system using two Power Commanders, an IC would switch relays between the sensor inputs and switch PC's (inherently switching fuel and ignition maps) in milliseconds, therefore giving you two different sets of engine management parameters, changable on the fly - or upon signal - from the nitrous activation...
Well I think I am going to do it. The Nitrous kit is from the McCoy bros. It is the same system they use on stock r1s and r2s. You can get the purge system as well which is what I am gong to do as well. What the H#ll may as well give it a go and if anything have fun and die with a smile. Snakeman
