Fuel Tank Removal Help

Howdy folks, I need a little advice on how to get the fuel tank off of my �94. I�ve got all of the fuel and breather hoses removed, the electrical connector removed and the long cross bolt at the back underside removed. The Haynes says I should be able to lift the rear of the tank up and slide the tank back and off, but it won�t budge. It�s moving about a quarter inch up and down at the back but stops solid, feeling like it�s hanging on something in the front. Anyone know the trick?

There's a metal sleeve where you removed the long bolt at the base of the tank. It's been dislodged which is preventing you from lifting the tank up. Get a screwdriver and jiggle it back into place. Tip: don't lose the rubber dampers on the underside of the tank that keep it off the frame. They're glued on but they can fall off.

That's it, had the same problem. I just used a screw driver, find someone you trust to take a screw driver close to your fuel tank then get them to wiggle the bushing around while you wiggle the tank and it will pop right off.

Lift the tank up at the rear so that the rubber grommets at the bottom of the tank (where the bolt slides through) to clear the bracket it is bolted to.

Now you have to grab the tank left and right, wiggle left and right and pull backward. The tank has some rubber blocks at the front; it appear yours are stuck.
Just keep at it, gently does it.

I'd made sure my tank was nigh on empty, makes handling easier with 20 kilo's less to worry about.

On fitting, make sure the grommets I mentioned donot fold but slide down gently. Put a litttle grease on the bolt to made sliding easier. Donot forget to put the fuel lock back to "ON"

Don;t feel bad, I had the same problem with mine...bought drove me crazy knowing that I had removed the bolt but the back of the tank would not lift up, then found that metal sleeve shoved over just enough to keep the tank from moving upward.

Another member two weeks later had the same thing happen, so you are not the first, and won't be the last. (IMG:style_emoticons/oldemoticons/blink.gif)

Sure enough, as predicted, it was the little sleeve for the long bolt at the back bottom of the tank. Had the tank off in literally one minute.
