please give some feed back people...what the heck did i do wrong?
Man the best person in the world you should talk to about this is her. 1 Go see her again and remind her how much you enjoy her friendship, (define the relationship in terms that SHE is comfortable with, not as a potential mate, or mating partner) Remember you wnat honesty from her nothing more.
2 Tell her that you were upset that she treated you like that, apologise for your own actions, and then ask her to explain what she felt when it happened. Then shut your yap and listen to her, it my take a few trys to get her talking, but getting her to talk to you and you listening as an engaged person with out comment other than to confirm and show empathy will certainly help define whatever relationship you have.
If dating is supposed to be practice for relationships, then we should do it more often standing up, fully clothed, and most often with our mouths. Wait that came out wrong. ..... we practice the sex and get bored long before we learn to communicate. I did the same thing with my wife, and I know others that did the same. Somehow it has worked for us, (22 years). Of Course, if she is real hot..... just do it!!!
gal #2 was very suprised, but happy to hang out and enjoy a great meal. she still thought i was a tad nuts for driving a bike in the snow...............

You know, your story sounded eerily familiar to me. Not to project, but this is exactly how my WIFE would have responded IF she was in a foul mood. So, by analogy, you may have just caught her in the wrong mood and it is not much more complicated than that. In support of this theory, I will give you an example:
Every time I detect that my wife is pissed at me I naturally assume that I did something wrong. So, in my infinite wisdom, I try to keep the lines of communication open and ask her "what did I do?" 99% of the time the answer is "Nothing" - and we all know that it is BS! Once she said to me something that actually made sense: She asked me why I was convinced that the whole world revolved around me. WAWAWAWAT? Said I... And then she explained that her mood is not entirely dependant on how much of an a$$ I am. There are other things in her world that affect her besides me.
Your next steps should be based on your intentions towards her.
If you just wana be friends (something I will never understand) then just forget about this incident. You don't need to dig into her mental guts - nothing to gain and everything to lose there. Just don't apologize if you don't know what for.
If you do not want to be just friends, then use this as a perfect opportunity to make up. Just take the cab next time and DO NOT BRING CRABS! goofy.gif
If you are thinking of eventually marrying her, then you may wana take a little extra time to reevaluate this decision - usually they do not cause you to wana apologize for God knows what until like the 5th year of marriage. And you guys aren't even dating yet...
gll429, Feb 15 2007, 01:10 AMplease give some feed back people...what the heck did i do wrong?
Mercy... you didn't act like her man... you acted like a pudknocker... you want her you got to win her over... and no amount of yelling shall keep you both away from celebrating Feb 14 as a fertility festival...
You said that she is your 'friend' not a 'girlfriend' - yet your action indicated much more than a friendship. You stepped over a friendship line a went too far. You came on too strong. As a friend, you don't bring oysters, crabs, file minon and hope for her to be nicely surprised. All she will be is confused what do YOU MEAN BY friendship. As a friend you bring maybe a bottle of wine and ask her to bring something too - so you share the expenses.
If you, however, have all the food for free than you have to say that ahead of time and make it look like it is not a big deal and even though it looks like you are set rather for a date, it is just a coincidence that it is available to you and that you would like to share all the food wiht her in friendly setting.
Nothing is bigger put off when a guy is proclaiming be OK with a friendship, yet his action loudly screems that he expects more. Maybe you don't and maybe she does not read you right, but friendship has rules which should not be overstep. For instance, that you could be ok with riding in the snow (and potentially kill yourself) to see your true love, but not just to spent afternoon with a friend. The risk/benefit ratio at that case looks not very favorable ...

Because it if far better to procreate with an enemy than a friend?
Women are weird.
You can enjoy spending time with a friend while not procreating, so ask any old couple that is still together about their spouse. Probably their best friend. Now ask any couple that has nothing in common except practicing making babies about their spouses. They don't stay together long, or dread going home.

I am not sure we understand each other.
Of course the person you procreate with should be your friend (in the best case, your best friend). But not every friend you have will want to procreate with you... goofy.gif
I guess, sometimes women just want to be friends, i.e. enjoy your company without the sexual part of it. .. by bringing oysters etc, she might have sense more than she was OK with.
Martina - infinitelly single because men refuse to see me as a person or human before they see me as a woman. Usually, they first have to stop see a woman in me to realize that I am also a human or a person.
Women can have a plutonic friendship with a man. A female friend for most men is simply someone they have not slept with..yet. Not saying I agree just saying that is the general truth.

I think this is right on. I think I can make the distinction between on that most part as well
If a guy is in a good relationship he will not go looking for a mate.
If a guy is not in a good relationship he will look for a mate.
Men are simple. Women can have friends, "friends", friends, and "friends."
As Cake declares, Friend is a four letter word. I can only think of one other word that can be used for so many purposes. It starts with f ends with k and has a history in America as the most usable, yet inappropriate word in the language. Maybe we can do the same for friend. goofy.gif

Martina, I understand and agree with the fact that we all should treat each other as persons first and foremost and as sexual objects later if appropriate. However, everyone knows that this is just not how the world works. I think that men never intentionally seek women for friendship and vs. versa. Mostly, such friendships happen unintentionally. This is because friendships are based on similar interests and similar views. An average man does not have similar interests or views with an average woman. It is much easier for a man to find such similarities in another man. Case in point. I like to ski, ride, sail, drink beer, watch sports, drink more beer, etc... Now, why would I want a woman for a friend? Of course, this is a very lopsided example, but it demonstrates the jist of what I mean. Most women would pass this AD right by in the "Friendship" classifieds. Then, there are first impressions. Both, men and women evaluate each other as potential mates first. And it is not because we are bad. It is just what all humans and other animals do - it is an instinct aimed at maximizing chances for survival of our progeny. So, before any man gets to know you, the person, he consciously or subconsciously evaluates you, the woman. I think that this is perfectly normal and should be treated as such.
According to my rather painful experience, the most fundamental difference between men and women is that women are dead serious about everything and men are not. In the other post you explained why she got pissed. I read it with great interest as it provided a valuable lesson for me. Your analysis of the situation is deep and thoughtful. You brought up things that never even occurred to me. According to you, and I absolutely agree BTW, there are rules to be followed. She saw those rules being violated and reacted the way she did. And this is a perfectly normal for a woman to see her friend at her doorstep taking off helmet, carrying a nice dinner, to refer to the rules of friendship and look for violations. From the guys' perspective, he probably just wanted to do something nice for the both of them and just did it w/o consulting the "rules of friendship" book. I realize that some women (present company excluded) may never accept such a simple explanation dry.gif , but it just might be the truth
Is it possible that she actually does see you as potentially more than "just a friend" --- and that when she saw that you were on a motorcycle in the snow and ice --- it caused a fear reflex --- which in turn caused to her to go on the offensive? blink.gif
I can recall instances in my past where I found myself furious with a friend because they took what I considered to be an inappropriate risk. Not saying it's rational ... but anger rarely is. rolleyes.gif

I read that differently, and I should probably stop posting in this topic to avoid making myself out to be a woman basher, but here goes anyway.
If she really was worth her airspace as a friend (real friend, not f*&k buddy or gal-pal, or potential mate) she would have had a conversation that explains her take on the friendship situation. Instead she started yelling.
I have to agree with Shannon here, if emotion was her first instinct she probably cares. She probably wanted to be depressed and alone all day on V-day and that was ruined by you coming to save her day.
Or she is just a spitefull b*$%h that wants to drag her friend around keeping him on a leash till the next best thing comes along. fing02.gif
gll429, Feb 15 2007, 04:10 AMsomething about risking my life and limb in freezing weather.... spending to much..(i spent nothing, i got it for fixing a chefs bike in 10 minutes..) and not planning ahead...(freak weather god i am not!!)
you would think a break from school food (AWFUL!!!!) is something she might enjoy......
she knows i do not have a car..and she knows i am a bit (HUGE!!)of a risk taker..
lurk.gif
Being the HUGE risk taker that you are, you didn't show up wearing a T-shirt with this logo on it did you...
You're still in school right? C'mon man, it's a no brainer, ya gotta read between the lines...
"something about risking my life and limb in freezing weather...." ie, Wait for a nice day,
"spending to much..." ie, bring a pizza and a six pack, or maybe just 'rail with The Capt... cool.gif
"and not planning ahead..." ie, pretend your a pizza delivery dude and it just so happens that a local delivery was a messed up pizza, so it was free, then ask her if she wants to share a piece... that oughta work... 491.gif
In these situations I think it is best to think of that whacky song by some group I have never heard of before, but it goes something like this: "c'mon now baby we ain't nothing but mammals, let's do it like they do on the Discovery channel..."
I know, I'm twisted and I still got a cute, sweet and understanding woman to marry me. She likes VFRs too, but unlike Martina she doesn't ride. If only I met someone like Martina first...women like her are rare. wub.gif
ok guys.. a little more background... i am deaf..(DUH,no kidding! feel free to give a tellapathic head slap).. i am 35.. went back to school to learn sign langluage at the age of 32..
i am a guy who says what he means and means what he says..... i said FRIENDS!!! most of my FRIENDS are women! the food WAS free, my pal is a chef, i fixxed dirt bike by cleaning the carb in about 10 minutes or so... (clogged from sitting).. he said a big load of snow was coming ,and will close the shop for a few days and boxxed up a bunch of goodies and said "enjoy!"
oh one important thing...i went becouse it was a snow day!! school was closed!! not becouse of V day... becouse it was a FREE day!
the first gal (28) has known me for 4 years...is deaf ,but talks (like me) she sees me do laps around the campus oval every Xmas break... ..(you can hit 145 on the straight before breaking, campus "cops" all know me..and get on for a lap )
we know where we stand.. the only way i could i have crossed the line would be if i kept going after a hug should have known by now that when i have stuff to share ,i share. i was just looking forward to day with a pal, good food and making fun of bad movies (the dirctors clearly do not watch myth busters!!!)
so.. as i said.. i show up.. get yelled at.. sorry.. not my way to say hello... i did not wuss out , i simply would rather spend time time with someone who is NOT yelling at me..
gal #2.........is 31.. has known me about a year, SAW me went i blasted past all the deaf bikers on spring ride.. MET me a half hour or so later... she is hearing, learning sign language and also knows were we stand... we have spend a few weekends going to museams on my bike.... shared a bunch of hotel rooms and she never needs to worry about me crossing the line.
so.. day went, the way i thought it would be , a good pal ,good food and sillyness.... just still confused blink.gif
oh my t shirt said P*RNST*R...cause i am! goofy.gif at least in my room on my tv!!! but no way she could have seen that.. blink.gif unless she has xray vision.

I think you went wrong in a few ways:
1) What you THINK your expectations were is certainly not in line with what you COMMUNICATED your expectations were - I think you probably need to have a little "in your own head" time before you try communicating again. If you don't, this little scenario will go from bad to a spectator sport.
2) Unless you're her bestest ever guy friend who she just doesn't f&^%k because she cares for you so much, I can't see why you'd do the machismo "ride in any weather bearing the sweetest delectables from across the globe and the depths of the oceans because it's St. Valentine's Day"
If it were me and I were single and didn't think of someone as a girlfriend or potential friend "with benefits," I'd be a little freaked if a girl showed up armed with the gear you brought. I'd be thinking, "WTF?" and backpedalling my way out of a situation not of my own creation and wondering what brought this on.
3) School closed DUE TO ICE doesn't typically translate to "Gallant motorcyclist, come hither and bring sustenance for the fair lasses, ride with abandon if ye must." Kick your own ass for that one.
4) Maybe it was your text message that screwed the whole thing up. If you TM like you spell in your post, maybe she got confoozled just a wee bit 'bout a few things. Not trying to be a TOTAL ASS, but there is something to be said for clarity vs. "lost in translation"
OK...got the flamesuit on...bring it. rolleyes.gif
OK...modifying my post (only because you've now posted more information):
1. If the spelling is due to being deaf (as is my brother-in-law's spelling), I give on that point now that I have more info. If not, my original view stands.
I have a question: If you had to choose and categorize ONE as a friend and ONE as a potential girlfriend (no other choice), who is which? In the end, did the friend get the V-Day special treatment or the other one?
I am curious. What do you do with a girl who is just a friend? I can understand eating (together) and making fun of bad movies, but there's got to be something else to do. I know some men who can have such frindships, but personally, I was never able to maintain one.
BTW, serves you right for trying to do something nice for a fellow human being goofy.gif
I most definitely hold to my original opinion ... I think she genuinely cares about you and was absolutely freaked by the idea that you risked life & limb in lousy weather ...
Give it a couple days, talk to her about it once everybody's hackles are down and I'll bet it all comes out in the wash. beer.gif
Rice, Feb 15 2007, 05:08 PMWhat do you do with a girl who is just a friend?
oh my, could not hold myself !
And what do you do with a guy who is your friend? What are you two talking about? What do you two do together? Maybe, you drink a beer and bash Buckeyes for loosing in such shameful way? Or you do something manly, like hit the ski slopes and make sure that with every curve you splash onlookers with snow? Or you just sit on couch and discuss which 'star' looks better in the swimsuit?
You think women cannot do that??
I have to say - and now I am talking about no one in particular - american society is much more gender-divided that european one. This is the major diff between US and East Europe (that is what I know). In US, it is unimaginable that guys would pair with gals just for fun, hobbies, and talking and that it would not be as a date. As someone said earlier, here, a oposite sex person is always judge as potential (sometimes only hypothetically) partner. I don't think this is what I have known... I do not want to start listing all the differences, but yes, with TYPICAL Am. woman (women on this site are great exceptions), you probably cannot talk about which movie stars have better breasts, she probably will not be faster on skis and she probably will not hold a door for you if your hands are full... But maybe that is because from being a little she was fed that if she does not feel as a princess, she is less woman, if she is not picky she is not interesting, if she does not have room full of pink fluffy thingie things, she is a lesbian...
When I was a child, parents typically bought kids what they wanted not what was gender appropriate, so I got a racing car game, my (girl)friend got a microscope a together we spent hours designing periscopes (great fun). I hated pink from being very little, never understood playing with dolls - yet I have never felt that my parents or anyone around me would be concerned about my properness as girl or my sexual tendencies. And no - I am not a lesbian.
So, I do believe in friendship between oposite genders because I see people as humans, not as men with possible "benefits"... And even though being a woman, I probably can judge better which breasts are fake than many guys, and I can probably ski faster (even though I got rusty since I don't compete anymore), I can shoot guns on the target definitely better than most of the guys (10 years of competing), yet I can still do bobbin lace or cook ... anyway, what I wanted to say is that just because someone has a uterus, they should not be excluded from normal friends conversation and should be treated as humans, not possible uterus!
{END OF RANT}
And I think "zubin' hit the nail on the head smile.gif (EDIT: I think "zubin' nailed gll429 intentions and "TN_VFR_Girl" nailed her feelings, ie. maybe I was wrong in my original post and "TN_VFR_Girl" is more likely right)

Hammy,
First of all this post is WORTHLESS without pics of girl #1 & girl #2, shoot maybe throw us a bone and include girl #3... c'mon we know there's one out there...
2nd, maybe she was yelling just because both of you are deaf? I don't know, trying to not be pc but you know I've met a few deaf chicas and they do talk a bit loud especially when you're, well, ahem... Go Gallaudet... Terrapin Ex here myself....
3rdly, if your deaf, how in the world do you know if she's yelling... unsure.gif Do you all use upper case sign language or something...
4thly, maybe you need a refresher course in Man 101 dude, WTH is all this "not going for more after a hug", and "sharing a hotel room and she doesn't need to worry..." DUDE, they want to worry and they expect you to cross the line... why the heck would she be in the hotel room with you otherwise? Didn't you use the "slip in the bathtub routine"?
C'mon man don't you remember your training...? The other sex is confusing, that's why we call them WOman and let them believe they are in control... sometimes no means yes, and yes means no... dig? It's going to cost you more $ either way you look at it (just ask Paul McCartney), so you may as well make an attempt for the apex anyway for chrissakes... come in hot and just trail brake dude, don't pull too hard on the front brake...
On that note... WTH is wrong with you other guys for telling him to apologize for something he "assumes" he did wrong... that's marriage man, and he's just dating, so Hammy, you go on bro... these other guys signed on for a life of hell and if not, then payments for life and 1/2 of everything they own, so you enjoy yourself while you still can... and I got news for ya, once you get through the barrier... it's all good.
Extra points though if you were indeed sportin a Pornstar T... let her know who she's dealing with... goofy.gif though personally I would have saved that until AFTER the sale is made...
What were you thinking in the first place? Diamonds are for suckers my friend.
V-day is for breaking up with any woman that attempts to supplant your two wheeled passions. Let that be a lesson she can remember every February from here on out. You got a tongue lashing without any of the other benefits.
My answer to females that ask 'what are you (or we) doing for V day'? What ever it is it'll involve two wheels and exceeding the speed limit.
how do i know she was yelling??? A) her arms were flying.. B)she had this look that would freeze madusa!
i am a bad speller because that part of my brain is occupied by motorcycle facts... fing02.gif
i have women friends because most guys just a want to get a beer and talk sports... i drink jet fuel and irish cream..if its not the philly eagles..i dont care.. being deaf, means growing up with no T.V. that means i was reading like crazy while most of the guys here were watching the A team... going to museams when you guys went to concerts... as for my "training"........... i find that just being myself works a lot better than being agressive.... and if i want a a "F buddy".. i simply go to any deaf bar.. find a freshman .. and give her the best 7 hours of her life.. most deaf girls have WAY over protective parents..so they go nuts at school, being FREE for the first time...
and i do not do that with friends..because i want to keep my friends...
HHHMMMM maybe martina and i are in the wrong bodys.... i dig pink and i am pretty damn sure i am a lesbian!

The Bloodhound Gang.
No point in me posting the MP3 here; for one, my warning bars would light up as soon as "d*ggy style" blasts from the Mod's PC speakers (PC in both senses of the abbreviation), secondly, our slightly confused comrade is deaf.....
Just keep trying at it, some you win, some you loose.
I know I already posted it but it might help... fing02.gif
Words woman use
FINE This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.
FIVE MINUTES If she is getting dressed, this is half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given 5 more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.
NOTHING This is the calm before the storm. This means "something," and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with 'Nothing' usually end in "Fine"
GO AHEAD This is a dare, not permission. Don't do it.
LOUD SIGH This is not actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A "Loud Sigh" means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you over "Nothing"
THAT'S OKAY This is one of the most dangerous statements that a woman can make to a man. "That's Okay" means that she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
THANKS A woman is thanking you. Do not question it or faint. Just say you're welcome.
1)"if i want a a "F buddy".. i simply go to any deaf bar.." What kind of music do they play at a deaf bar? Or because of your poor spelling, did you mean like: "We folks that can't hear like to hang out at this really 'Def' bar, man"? musik20.gif
2)" find a freshman ..and give her the best 7 hours of her life.." Does the sex really last 7 hours, or is it because you can't hear her say "WILL YA STOP ALREADY, FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD...) Oh. I guess she wouldn't say 'CRYIN OUT LOUD' now that I think about it... blink.gif
3)" most deaf girls have WAY over protective parents..so they go nuts at school, being FREE for the first time..." I'm not so sure this is mutually exclusive to any particular gender/personal persuasion/incapacity/impairment/limitation/other goofy.gif
4)Martina, do you think if I a) 'saw' you as a woman friend, and cool.gif just only 'thought' naughty things about you, and if I c) called you Marty or Martin, you know, to kinda like step to the Euro way (guy friends), it could d) maybe turn into something more? sad.gif And.... 5) If it all didn't work out, could we both still be able to remain VFRD members? blink.gif
I'm just so confused, is all... goofy.gif Oh ya, to stay on topic, I spent Valentines Day/week flat on my back, making love to my Tylenol and going delerious with the worst cold/plague/whatever I've had in a very long time! (maybe that explains all this verbal pooh...) Bye! fing02.gif Greg
on the whole, haring parents of deaf kids are by far the most over protective that i have seen.

Synaptic Misfire, Feb 15 2007, 12:57 PMWomen can have a plutonic friendship with a man. A female friend for most men is simply someone they have not slept with..yet. Not saying I agree just saying that is the general truth.
Plutonic relationship? Would that be one held on the former planet known as Pluto? Or would that be one with Pluto the dog? goofy.gif Platonic is the word you want.
One time a girl asked me a purely hypothetical question just for her own knowledge: if she was someone that I liked, why would I like her? Now, my own girlfriend was right next to me so I know there was no sort of motive. I listed a few reasons, and one of them was that she has a nice body (friggin awesome jugs). She the proceeded to cry and refused to explain why, said merely that it wasn't my fault she was crying. Of course, being totally perplexed, and not someone who enjoys making girls cry, I still wonder about it nearly 20 years later. If she comes to the next reunion I'm gonna' ask her about it. The moral of the story being, that sometimes we cannot comprehend another persons reasoning or thinking, and for this reason we should not assign motives. We can ask for an explanation but if they will not give a reasonable one, forget about it; don't dwell on it. If this behavior is a pattern with this person, and they will not/ cannot explain it or rectify it, then move on... maybe move on to The Czech Chick. She likes bikes and seems available.
Yo, gll 429- deaf bars? I've never heard of a deaf bar! All this time if I had just paid a little more attention to the Sign Language book I have around here somewhere I could have been picking up deprived chicks?

It is beyond me how a man and woman can be "best friends" or "really good everyday hanging out friends" without the man trying to have sex with her!!
Its not possible, there is something wrong with that equation, a variable of some sort that relates to an entirely different problem that must be solved first.
Its been said that, Men are from Mars, and Women are from Venus, and I think they should add: "guys who have best friends that are girls are from Pluto because its the odd ball planet at the end of the solar system rotating in the opposite direction as everyone else and could not be inhabited by very many people."
