I previously owned a dead-stock 96' VFR with about 12k miles on it. I only owned it for about a summer, but I absolutely loved it for solo riding. Wife simply was not comfortable riding it however.
The one I've just found has about 24k miles on it, 'stage 2 jet kit', and a Corbin seat(I figure a backrest, and heli bars and the wife will be a-ok?). I doubt she ever does any serious miles with me anyhow, she just isnt spiriteda bout riding like that, but she'd love a semi-comfortable 100-150 mile day once in a while I'm sure. It has a couple nicks on the rear from a bungee cord according to the owner, but it appears to be very clean. I've done alot of soul searching and come back to the same bike I'd owned before, there are others I like as well, but I cant seem to make sense of spending $2-3k more for not a whole lot more bike. The asking price is $3300 on this, which I feel is a tad high, but if its as clean as it seems, is it worth it? I sold mine with alot less miles, totally stock, with a few more cosmetic flaws 3yrs ago for about $3600 IIR, what is it worth if not 3300?

Welcome back. I bought my VFR 2 years ago. It is a '95. Had 15,500 on the clock when I bought it. I paid $3100. I think that $3300 is fair. Less is always better, but it is hard to find a VFR in good shape in Iowa. i don't know what you are looking to spend, but Sindt in Dubuque has some left over 2004 Interceptor's for $6800.00. Good Luck, and maybe we will have to meet up for a ride this summer.

You mean after getting married and buying a house you still can afford another VFR? goofy.gif I wouldn't let the mileage bother you at all, the main thing is the overall condition of it. You could always go look at it and if you like it, offer him 2900 or 3000 cash laid in his hand.....when you count out the money in his hand and get to the 2900 point and have no more to give, he will have a hard time giving you back the 2900 in his hand. That would make you feel better about the deal on it. fing02.gif
The wife has approved up to 6k on a bike, but I'd rather not spend nearly that much. I'd planned to buy a commuter car to keep miles off my subi, and she asked what I wasnt looking to buy an inexpensive bike instead.....and well, I've been on a mission ever since.
Donny, If all goes well I'd be up for meeting and riding together sometime. I've got a couple friends who ride(02'/06 GSXR, 04' SR4) that I wont be able to keep up with wink.gif In reality, my skills have become VERY rusty but I'll get most of them back if I can get something bought early in the season smile.gif

+1.gif If the bike is in good shape, 24k isn't really that much. And with the jet kit installed you might keep up with your friends a little better than you could with the stock bike. Also, hard to tell in the pix, but it kind of looks like that VFR has the plated or metal passenger grabrails. Nice little addition if that is the case.
How sure are you that the reserve price on the auction matches the Buy It Now price? Unless the seller has already told you differently, the reserve price could be a few hundred less. That's how I usually do my reserve price auctions - put a high reserve on the item but make the Buy It Now price a little higher, say maybe 10%. That's the amount I'd like to get and not have to worry about the reserve being met, hoping that someone will want the item badly enough to just go ahead and buy it outright instead of taking a chance their highest bid won't be high enough.

My wife really likes the 599, but she hasnt so much as sat on one, to me it's just too small for two up riding, and it's actually down on power over the VFR, and I dont like not having any wind protection at all. I think it'd be a terrrific second bike for running around on, but I could buy an old Radian for 1500$ and do the same thing more or less. With the VFR750, it's alot of bike for the money even if it does have a few miles on it, it'll just allow me more money for mods, better reg/rect, 929 shock IIR, slip on(I really want to hear a VFR w/ pipe in person), risers, windshied, throttle lock, heck all of that could probably be done for $700 or so and I'd have exactly what I want vs dropping $5-6k on a bike that'll still need farkles smile.gif
Talk to Tyrmeltr (arik). He needs to get rid of his 3rd gen and it's got all the goodies (penske, racetech, corbin w/backrest, etc.) It's about as sweet as you'll find, it has no NACA ducts, and it's ready to go.

Arik's bike is so clean that I'd make the call to foreward air. Talk to him about the price. Maybe he'd make a drop for someone who really wants a VFR. Couldn't hurt
Arik definately has a nice bike, with some great mods done to it, but this other bike is only $200 more, and 50x closer to home, 6yrs newer w/ 1/2 the miles. Granted those mods would be very very nice, but I think I'll have to pass, especially being a repaint on a bike that had been damaged, if i was local to cali......it maybe a different story though smile.gif

I saw this bike on ebay and wrote to ask the owner about the discrepancy in the photos. He shows one seat where he gives the close up shot of the bungee hook scratches by the frankenbolts and another seat is pictured in the only outdoor shot of the bike by the tree.
That outdoor shot looks like a bike that was on ebay about six weeks ago. I wish I had saved the pix but I am sure that I recognize that bike by the tree. Best case scenario, the guy used the shot from the other bike to show the tank bra that he does not have a pic of but says is included.
Worst case, he doesn't have the seat shown in the outdoor pic either.
Either way I would be comfortable bidding on the bike but it would definately impact my bid price.
Best of luck getting back into a VFR. Tyrmelter's is a beauty regardless of the miles, besidsdes most anything that needs attention has been lovingly taken care of by him.
